Democrat plan calls for 455% increase for cities, towns (Tax on home sales)

Home buyers and sellers in Connecticut would be hit with thousands of dollars in additional costs under a budget plan being considered by state legislators.

Democratic lawmakers want to dramatically increase the conveyance tax, a levy paid on the sale of a home, for a 16-month period.

Under the proposal, the amount paid by home sellers to towns and municipalities would soar by 455 percent, and the amount paid to the state would jump by 50 percent.

On the sale of a $160,000 house, the local tax would rise from $176 to $800 and the state tax would climb from $800 to $1,200, for a combined increase of $1,024.

Here in the "Tax-U-to-Death" state, we pay taxes on everything imaginable. I just found out about this tax. Now, they want to raise taxes on the backs of people selling homes.

Why stop there? Why don't they just sell all houses in the state on the courthouse steps? All money and property rightly belongs to the state anyway.
