Hennig passes away
Wrestling Observer ^ | February 10, 2003 | Dave Meltzer

Posted on 02/10/2003 3:16:42 PM PST by EveningStar

Curt Hennig, who was in his prime one of the most talented wrestlers of the modern era, died earlier today in Tampa. He was 44.

Hennig was in town for a show being promoted by Jimmy Hart at the Tampa State Fairgrounds tonight. He was seen alive at 9:30 a.m. by Mickey Jay in his room, but a few hours later when he failed to show up at the gym, a workout partner went back to the room and he was found passed out at about 1 p.m. He was officially pronounced dead a short time later.

Sad. This will certainly be mentioned on WWE RAW tonight.

Prayers for Curt Hennig's family. I got to see him perform once here in Chicago when he was Mr. Perfect. He was a legend in wrestling.

Its sad, another wrestler dying so young. If this was any other profession, there would be a huge uproar. Its almost numbing now, how many of the guys from the 80's and 90's are going well before there time. I'm sure Phil Muchnick will have something to say. I may not like him, but he does make some great points at times.

This is so unfortunate.

"Mr. Perfect" was a great gimmick, BTW.

Yeah I took pictures when I was at that show Feb 2002. He was a great performer. Real sad story.

Wait this is Mr. Perfect, maybe the headline title should be changed to reflect this. I have a bad feeling his death is related to past steroid use.

I stopped watching wrestling years ago, but Curt Hennig was always one of my favorite bad guys. He played the role very well. Prayers for his family and those he left behind.

All wrestling is fake, except for Mexican wrestling.

I hear ya. Stopped watching not long after Savage won the belt. Henning was a great entertainer. My thoughts go out...

BTW, my late uncle Alan Stewart was a well known grappler in the late 50's and early 60's. Masked man. I'm pained at what pro wrestling has become in our era.

May we stand silent as we ring the bell. Rest in peace, Kurt.
