10,000 hits in 4 days to Davis recall website

By Bay City News Service

Within four days after the Web site "RecallGrayDavis.com'' was launched last week, about 10,000 Californians joined the organized effort to remove Gov. Gray Davis from his seat in Sacramento, according to the group's organizers.

Former Republican Assemblyman Howard Kaloogian of Carlsbad, who is spearheading the effort, said, "The Recall Gray Davis campaign is committed to organizing the tens of thousands of Californians we will need to carry out this recall effort.''

Kaloogian called the number of visitors to the Web site a sign of how important the Internet has become in politics. A separate recall effort launched last week is being led by a group founded by Paul Gann, co-author of Proposition 13. Ted Costa, chief executive officer of People's Advocate, Inc., said 897,147 signatures within 160 days would pave the way for a special election.

The state budget deficit, gaping about $34.6 billion wide, is one of the main sources of concern for supporters of the recall. Carl Burden, a People's Advocate spokesman, has said, "We feel the governor has failed the people of California and has been fiscally irresponsible.'' Davis' office could not immediately be reached for comment.

I ordered a petition.

Now, can we get Tom McClintock to declare his candidacy for the vacant position?

I say it for you, "It's premature for that." That's what the "professionals" said of Simon's campaign last June. If McClintock wants free press to build a grass roots organization, now's the time to get it. This won't be a "normal" campaign.

Nice petition, but more should have been done so this loony didn't get re-elected.

I signed up a couple of days ago, and also to receive a petition when they are ready. I hope we get to see grayout riding off into the sunset, and please, gray, don't stop when you get to the Pacific...

Sorry, you'll have to address that concern to Mr. Rove.

what happens if he wins again..doesnt seem well thought out

Whart happens is we're stuck with the guy we've already got. In other words, we have nothing to lose by trying.

I notice that the "signup for petition" form doesn't ask how many signatures you plan to gather. Without that info, they're not going to know how many copies of the petition to send you, since there are only so many signature spaces on each copy.

They served Davis on the same day as Powell's speech, which caused their action to be overshadowed in the news, plus they didn't have a website ready to go at the time, and now this. I'm not too sanguine that this effort is being run by people who know how to organize. Nevertheless, I just signed on to circulate petitions, and I'll give it my best.

They need to get a 1,000,000 signatures to recall the election on Gray "skies" Davis. Be sure to pass the petition around to your friends and family.

My grandparents live in Simi Valley how can I send them the petition?

Too bad I'm in Illinois otherwise I'd gladly sign to give "Red" Davis the boot.

And make sure those who sign the petition are registered voters and not felons (as happened in Wisconsin & Missouri) and are not pets or dead people. :-)

The traditional politicians don't understand the power of the internet to get things done. As usual, all of the establishment suspects are standing on the sidelines, but FReepers are about to prove that they are not needed for things to change.

Keep truckin.
