Clift Blames U.S. for Not Upholding Promises to North Korea

The U.S. just as dishonest as the North Koreans? Newsweek's Eleanor Clift applied Clintonian logic on McLaughlin Group over the weekend as she argued that because North Korea switched from plutonium to uranium, they violated “the spirit of the framework, but not the technicality” while the U.S. “didn't deliver on our end either,” so, she argued, “all the fault's not on their side.”

Clift contended about North Korea: “This may be a technicality, but they did mothball their plutonium program. And what they did was start up a parallel program with uranium, which violates the spirit of the framework, but not the technicality. And for the U.S. end, we didn't deliver on our end either which was to move towards diplomatic relations and to provide them with light-water reactors. And we didn't do that either so, you know, I'm not necessarily defending them but all the fault's not on their side.”

Clift may have inadvertently stumbled into a criticism of Clinton policy since those promises to North Korea were made by and not kept by the Clinton administration.

That's like the Nazis changing from shooting Jews to gassing them instead.

You could save a lot of bandwidth by only reporting when Clift says something that is NOT stupid.

I don't know who is the more sickening: Eleanor Clift or Helen Thomas.

I'd pay money to see them duke it out over who got to give Bubba a Monica.

Intriguing scenario. It would be fun to watch the fight, but for whom would Bubba be rooting?

"A technicality." Uh huh. Seems "Uranium ain't plutonium" is Korean for Clinton's credo: "Eatin' ain't cheatin'."

A rally in Pusan yesterday
protesting North Korea's nuclear program. The placard has likenesses of S. Korea's (conciliatory) President Kim Dae-jung and North Korea's (dictator) Kim Jong-il.

I have read fascinating and recent Japanese news analysis from NKorea-watchers in Japan, to the effect that essentially Clinton's Madeline Albright was set up by Kim Jong il, as have a long stream of naive Western visitors to the Potemkin village of Pyongyang, to be swept off their feet and wowed at the sight of those mass games in the stadiums, etc. It said that Kim's tactic was to both show Albright his iron-clad despotic strength, and then to also flatter her during the ceremonies with hundreds of thousands sending their greetings toward the dais.

A North Korean watcher said his analysis was that she completely fell for it and was disarmed.

The proof: her reaction in the film footage in Pyongyang, and her continuing statements for several years after her trip, where she said we can 'deal with Kim', and she received his personal e mail address for contact any time (which has now suddenly changed to calling him a dictator in order to distance herself from her actions in Pyongyang). Both Pres. Carter and Roger Clinton were also flipped and co-opted in Pyongyang during trips, as saps similiarly.

Now they are burrowing their way out of the situation as quickly as they can, because they know the opened and liberated NK gulag prison camps will be subject to worldwide press soon--the images will be horrifying--and these Western appeasers will appear as foolish, disgraceful facilitators as they are.
