Although they have been doing so stealthily, now Hatch has recognized that they are filibustering.

This is so great! The RATS are alienating one of their core interest groups. Suicidal for the RATS, great for the country.
As we go to war, the RATS in the senate will be babbling to themselves and looking like the idiots they are.

" drive Hispanics (whom they woo for votes) to the Republican party"
All the Republicans have to do is stick to their guns, sit back, let them filibuster, and watch it happen. The first will be the hardest, but remember we do not have Lott as SML anymore, and what better way for Frist to make his bones.

What happened to the dems tried and true reason to reject people - their rating with the ABA. The ABA says this guy is a great candidate. However, they aren't listening this time.
They want to stop this guy for a lot of reasons - one of them being that the guy submitted a paper to the USSC in the Bush v. Gore fiasco. I see a PAYBACK from the dems. I cannot believe they still being so petty over losing an election.
I can hardly wait until they looooooose BIG TIME in 2004

"I question under the Constitution if you can really do this under the Constitution. I think it's outrageous to try. I think it's dangerous to try." VERY excellent point by Orrin. The Constitution gives the President the power to nominate, the Senate the power to advise and consent. There is no power vested in 41 Senators to block an appointment; that requires 51 votes. It is not like a typical vote on legislation.
Here's the way to test it: Call the senate in Session, hold the vote over the objection of the Dims, get him 51 votes, then let the Dims go to court to block the nomination on the grounds that there was no successful cloture vote. The court will throw that one out as being a matter for the Senate to decide internally; it won't get involved. If the courts did get involved, they would probably find that the "advice and consent" clause requires only a majority vote, and says nothing about the procedure to get there.
Meanwhile, Miguel goes to his seat and starts judging.

Or until public distain for them reaches such a fever pitch, they are forced to abandon it.
The dems are going to lose their base over this little stunt - all because they are following x42's advice. When are they going to figure out x42 doesn't know diddly-squat!!

The political battle is now shaped so the democrats have to go on record, for being for everything that is bad for America. If it keeps going this way, even the sheeple will get on board. Do you see a 60 seat Senate in our future?

Monday 10:30am EST the bombs start. (they'll want the market open). Within 2 weeks it's over, shortly thereafter Bush announces a new International Peace organization to fight terrorism, comprised of our cooperating countries,ie, not France or Germany. UN races to jump into the Iraq situation, US says no thanks. Shortly thereafter we drop out of the debating society, the UN.

Psst!! Start sending this thread to Hispanic and Latino websites!
To: mabelkitty
JUst start sending them transcript off the Senate floor. No need for them to hear it second hand. Report the news and let them decide.

Also, laws state the Senate can create them to suit them as they see fit. Seperation of powers, so they can't sue because they would be suing themselves.
Why not vote at midnight?

Charles Krauthammer tonight said their tactics were a "lose lose" situation, for they would drive Hispanics (whom they woo for votes) to the Republican party.God bless, FoxNews and Mr. Krauthammer.

**Let the RATS filibuster.**
You are correct here. They will lose the Hispanic vote.
Their loss; Republican gain.

What is a filibuster?
There is a movie "Mr. _______________ goes to Washinginton" or something like that where he starts talking and continues until they accept his point of view. Gives you some idea without all the Senate legal hoops. Just a movie.
Sorry I can't remember the correct title.

The rats do stuff like this because they believe they can get away with it. Unfortunately, they usually do. They didn't on Nov. 5, 2002.

Heard some guy on Fox (?) say that the Republican party should be taking out air time to air this on Latino tv. They don't have the nuts....oops, I meant guts to do that..."Land of Opportunity" TV Spot Backs Estrada
WASHINGTON (PRNewswire) -- The Committee for Justice, a nonprofit group backing President Bush's judicial nominees, today launched its latest media campaign with a 30-second TV spot, "Land of Opportunity," urging Americans to tell Senate Democrats to give up plans to block Miguel Estrada, the first Hispanic nominated for a top federal appeals court seat.
The ad campaign -- which starts airing this week in North Carolina, Indiana and Washington, D.C. -- had its national debut on CNN's "Inside Politics," where it was featured in coverage of the Senate fight over Estrada's nomination.
North Carolina & Indiana - Who might that be ?
