Border Patrol agent attacked, knocked unconscious by suspected illegal immigrants

PHOENIX (AP) -- A group of suspected illegal immigrants trying to sneak across the Mexican border attacked a U.S. Border Patrol agent and knocked him unconscious, officials said.

The agent, whose name wasn't released, was treated for a concussion and released Wednesday from University Medical Center in Tucson, said Susan Herskovits, a spokeswoman for the FBI.

She said the agent was running after a group of people suspected of illegally crossing the border Tuesday night when six immigrants attacked him in a remote desert area about two miles north of the border. He was hit several times with a rock but managed to radio for help. His attackers fled.

Border Patrol spokesman Frank Amarillas said such skirmishes are rare. More commonly, violent confrontations occur when agents encounter drug-traffickers, he said.

"Such attacks may be infrequent, but we know we can encounter any sort of criminal activity," Amarillas said.

A friend of mine use to say that we need to build a wall...maybe it really is time. PLUS until the terrorist threat is over..it makes sense to me to close the borders for a little while. Is that too extreme?

My first thought: Some M.E. men could easily pass for Hispanic. Sounds like these guys were pretty intent on getting across the border. Considering the current alert status, I hope they track them down and find them.

Seeing how the agent was likely an infidel, he is very fortunate those attacking him were *not* muslims - they would have gladly cut his throat and cut off his head - in that order and very slowly.

This was purely a case of wetbacks fleeing from the border patrol.

Probably correct. However, Middle Eastern terrorists sneaking in may not want to call additional attention to themselves until they are sure that they can complete their mission. Assuming that everyone illegally crossing our borders is here to do yardwork is one of the many idiotic things that is going to cost more Americans their lives.

And where are the additional armed border patrol agents? Why do we not have military on the border - this truly is an invasion by a foreign army....it MAY be an army of civilians, but it's still an invasion.

Combine this with the report earlier of the family in AZ that found a backpack, obviously left by an illegal that contained a journal in Arabic.
