I was at the Cinci GRPC back in 2001. I HIGHLY recommend this event for anyone that supports the 2nd Amendment.

SAF is IMO, the best nationwide gun rights organization in the country. This is the group behind Emerson, and was fighting Ohio's CCW law in court. They also produce Gunweek as well. If you are not a member, please join(it's tax deductable as well).

Tell me why I should go to this instead of Frontsight this year? Will Texas recognize my CPL? Did you ever buy that pistol we talked about? All important questions for you.

Are they scheduled for the same time. I haven't been to Frontsight so I can't comment there.

Will Texas recognize my CPL?
I have no idea. I don't know if they recognize Michigan's for that matter.

Did you ever buy that pistol we talked about?

I got it. Fits great. Shoots well, although I need to lighten the trigger pull.

No, but they are scheduled for the same money.

I wonder if you knocked off the amount that goes to the Scientologists how much a 4-day at Frontsight would cost...

Good school, but they've threatened websites and writers with lawsuits for criticizing their Scientology connections and questioning some of 'Naish's heavy-handed tactics (there was a long series of threads about their intimidation practices on the old TheFiringLine.com site, with various supporting links. You should still be able to search through the archives for it even though the site is closed. IIRC, the owner of Glock Talk had to ban any threads about Frontsight because 'Naish threatened to sue him over some threads.)

I personally don't give a rat's hindquarters about Scientology, but it does bother me that a school I attended and gave money to would engage in intimidation of firearms forum owners.

This is the first I ever heard of this Scientology connection. My big problem with Frontsight is the high pressure hype sales. I'm a big boy and can say no but when I get that type of sales pitch repeatedly I start to wonder if it's on the up and up. Of course attending the school and seeing the professionalism and the building going on gives me comfort that my initial insticts were not correct.

I heard about lawsuits against former employees/employee who was spreading "rumors about frontsight" but didn't really pay any attention to it.

Scientology is pretty kooky but no more kooky than some of the other things some gun folks are into.

I take the criticisms of frontsight with a grain of salt as I don't really know what the story is. Piazza is a Chiropractor and they are some very anal people so you are bound to have ticked of former associates even if he was opening a hamburger stand.

I consider frontsight or any other firearms school to be in the same category as the continuing ed. classes my wife has to take to keep her Physical Therapy license.

Those classes cost between 300-400 dollars a day. When I look at it in those terms the prices at Frontsight are right in line with other training courses in other disciplines.

See http://www.packing.org/ for a list of concealed carry license recognition. Currently Texas recognizes the following states:

Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Kentucky, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Tennesee, and Wyoming.

Florida is shall issue and will issue to non-residents - my application has been submitted and that what I plan to use when in Houston, since my sheriff is disinclined to issue.

It's also important to note that firearms MUST be concealed in Texas. Open carry, or even inadvertent exposure of a concealed firearm, is to be avoided.

Thanks. My post to dan from michigan was more of a joke that even he didn't get that served more as a bump.

If anyone would like to explain to me what goes on at this conference that is more important that actually training though, I would like to know?

I'm all for supporting and promoting gun rights but some of these conferences can just be considered junket/vacations for the attendees and wouldn't really be more interesting that going shooting to the avg. joe.

I'm not that interested in going to a conference if the main outcome for me would be couple of funny t-shirts, a hangover story, and a couple of chicken cordon-bleu dinners.

That being said SAF is doing the good Lord's work when comes to the 2nd ammendment. The NRA is fighting a defensive holding action and the SAF is attacking via the Courts.

A good combination in the spirit of those on Corregidor while we got our fleet back together and stopped on Hitler first.

Washington doesn't recognize any state's CCW. Texas doesn't recognize their's.

If anyone has the money to go to a shooting school, I would suggest going to Jeff Cooper's Gunsite. If you're going to learn, it may as well be from the one who started it all.
