Hispanics call for 'cool down' on Estrada

The disagreement among Hispanics over whether to support Miguel Estrada for a federal appeals court slot is so strident that the National Council of La Raza has called for both sides to cool down.

"While NCLR remains neutral on the nomination itself, we urge those who are engaging in name-calling and accusatory language to instead focus on the substantive issues and merits of this nomination," the group said in a statement. "Since the Latino community is clearly divided on the Estrada nomination, we find the accusation that one side or another is 'anti-Latino' to be particularly divisive and inappropriate."

The fact is, that we are supporting an Hispanic to high office and the Democrats are opposing him. You can bet that when George Bush appoints an Hispanic to the Supreme Court that the Democrats will oppose him also.

No matter how "La Raza" (The Race) spins it, it speaks for itself.

Judge Jeffrey Sutton, 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals.
Recommended by the panel.

Who is Judge Jeffrey Sutton, and what is HIS record?
And if he is like most of the judges on the 9th, why the HELL didn't the Republicans block HIS recommendation?

As for Mr. Estrada, Republicans will use next week's scheduled recess to renew their push for the confirmation of Mr. Estrada in part by stepping up attention in the Spanish-language press and home-state newspapers of Democratic senators.

I love this. It brings joy to my heart when I see that the Republicans are ready, willing and able to play some beanball.

NOW is the time to go berserk and drill the message home that the Democrat Party hates Hispanics. Clearly, this is the fact given Senor Estrada's superior qualifications and resume. The scumbags are flustered because they can find nothing controversial to pin on Senor Estrada. But that is not Senor Estrada's fault. No, there is only one possible explanation for the Democrat Party's filibuster - - the Democrat Party hates Hispanics.

The Republican Party has been handed an unprecedented, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to nail down for the foreseeable future a proud, hard-working, and morally confident voting base - - Americans of Hispanic descent. Republicans must not be frugal or tepid - - Republicans MUST take advantage of this opportunity which has been handed to them on a silver platter by the Democrats. The time is NOW.

he hasn't involved himself in Hispanic organizations. Nor has Mr. Estrada paid attention to issues important to Hispanics.

Boo!

However, one judge, Jeffrey Sutton, won recommendation from the panel, 11-8, to be a judge on the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Yeah, this scares me, too. Why would Democrats let him get through? Is Sutton a scumbag?

The RNC should use the off week to do "Call Your Senator" adds on Spanish Language Channels in New York City, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Chicago, Florida and Louisiana.

When the Senate comes back, do a cloture vote, and if necessary force the RATS to babble 24/7.

If the media and La Raza are admitting to a deep division then you gotta' know the RATS are way on the wrong side of the issue.

How can you get the Democrats to change their vote on Estrada? Have their gardeners go on strike.

After they exhaust their filibuster and cave (in a time of war, no less) watch how many of them switch and vote to confirm him so it won't become a campaign issue when they run for re-election.

Particularly if you live in California, New York, New Mexico or Florida, now's the time to turn up the heat.

Concerning Jeffrey Sutton recommended for 9th US Circuit Court.

I did a few searches.
Jeffrey Sutton seems to be a states rights advocate, a "limited government federalist" ( is this an oxymoron? )
( Seems to me, that a federalist is in favor of powerful centralized government, Yet, they call him a states rights advocate. Which is it? )

At any rate, Civil Rights Groups, and advocates of Disabled Rights, Medicare, etc., seem to have a real problem with Judge Sutton.
It seems he won't let support their discrimination claims, won't let them sue the states or federal government, and generally is a bad person.
The overall gist I got was, he refuses to let people receiving government support sue, just because they don't like the level of services they are being provided.

Seems to me it was Voltaire that said something about the demise of Democracy beginning when the People realized they could "vote" themselves money.

All in all, Judge Sutton appears to be a hard core conservative judge, and should do well on the 9th Circuit, (assuming he is ever confirmed) and how he ever got a recommendation from the board is beyond me.
From what I've read on Google, he is despised by the Left, and that is good enough for me.

the National Council of La Raza has called for both sides to cool down.

I wonder if they are listening to the National Council of The Race and cooling down.

They want this cool down period because their bosses at the DNC are taking too much heat.

Through some more peppers on that burrito!

Poor Mr Estrada. I don't know much about him other than he is an immigrant from Honduras who did well and is Hispanic ----I don't know where he stands on the issues because the only thing that seems to matter to the Republicans is his "race" but I'm assuming he's anti-abortion from the Democrat reaction to his nomination. He seems to be getting "borked" or "thomased" but he's probably a good candidate independent of his ethnicity. Too bad this ends up being a race thing.

I can vouch somewhat, coming from Texas, living in Austin and the Coastal Bend that Republican Senators and their spokesmen and women have been on an Austin radio station. They paid close attention to many Democratic Senators up in arms against Estrada's strong Pro Life stance and the future possibity that he could be nominated for the High Court. He as appeared before the court 15 times during cases so his resume and experience is not in question. Also, I know there has been much awareness and knowledge of the situation amongst Hostonian Hispanics, many of whom are level-headed and supporting Estrada. However, there is a fair share that seem to ignore the man and listen to their corrupt Democratic leaders' opinions.
I must say though, it is embarassing to have Rep. Charlie Gonzalez representing our state and making such comments. Great Spin artist he is indeed. Here's hoping many will take the advice given over the airwaves and in the papers and call your senators this weekend!
I just hope the Republicans give em' hell and continue to fight through this Filibuster!

From the article:

Democrats yesterday also blocked votes in the Judiciary Committee on two appellate nominees until the end of the month. However, one judge, Jeffrey Sutton, won recommendation from the panel, 11-8, to be a judge on the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Republicans think Hispanics belong in judges' chambers.
Democrats think Hispanics belong in abortion chambers.
