[history]
A Warner administration bill that permits police to charge motorists for not wearing seat belts cleared the House of Delegates by a whisker yesterday.
However, the win could be temporary because the measure is likely to come up again today.

"It's not done yet,......."I have never in my life had one soul come to me and say, 'Please, go to the state Capitol and protect me from myself.' Never,......is the most egregious attempt to intrude into the expectations of privacy of over 70 percent of Virginians who are willing to accept the law, abide by the law and don't need to be hit in the head to do it" Del. John S. Reid, R-HenricoDel. John S. Reid, great Republican. Look for bigger and better things for Del. Reid in the future.
"When the bill is on the governor's desk, we'll be relaxed a little bit," said David Kelly of the Virginia Coalition for Child Safety
The cops don't enforce the child safety seat law anyway. Drive around town and you peoples' kids crawling all around in their cars. Why doesn't this apron attired girly boy worry about that since it's "all about the children", instead of adults who should be free to be stupid if they want? Because this law is only to give the government another way to jerk us around, they don't care whether we wear seat belts or not. It's the principle of greater govt power/ loss of individual freedom that matters.
Meanwhile, illegal aliens flood the commonwealth, middle easterners are in our universities majoring in physics, biology, chemistry, and other sciences so they can go home and fabricate new ways to kill us en mass. That's allright though, atleast if we die in our vehicles, we will have had our seat belts on.
Thank you RINOs and DimRATs.

I can drive over to the 7-11 at Bailey's Crossroads right this very moment and point out 50 to 75 illegal aliens milling around at the streecorner.

They have click-it or ticket campaigns here in upstate SC.
I think the main purpose is to increase revenues. Now they've started a "Litter Busters" campaign. Roadsite billboards and TV ads give a phone number and encourage people to call in and rat on litterers.

This bill got killed this morning by the House. Seems Del Melvin realized the racial profiling exposure that this would lead to and asked for reconsideration of the bill.
I couldn't believe that someone in the black caucus didn't jump on this aspect sooner. I guess it's about government control rather than constituent service.
Del Melvin takes shots at Gov. Warner for pushing this. Now, even the Dims are gunning for Warner in public.

Now, even the Dims are gunning for Warner in public. That's great news, it should be embarassing to the GOP though that a Dim had play the race card to kill it.

Thanks! You always have the best news. I remember reading before that it's the racial profiling fear that always kills this legislation year after year. I'm glad it worked to the advantage of personal liberties at least one more time. Some of my favorite legislators were arguing for its passage, unfortunately. I can understand their arguments, but there's a government line I don't want to cross. This is one of them.

it should be embarassing to the GOP though that a Dim had play the race card to kill it.I know what you mean. Sixty-some conservatives in the general assembly and not 51 to kill it outright and we have to rely on some Dems to play the race card? Not good, but I'll take it. Maybe the AdminMod will change the title of the thread now.
WMAL is reporting the bill to allow concealed carry in bars died in committee since no one acted on it.

Seems Del Melvin realized the racial profiling exposure that this would lead to Yeah, if they pulled me over for my seatbelt, I'd sue the VSP for profiling male Caucasians over 40.

GET OUT OF JERRY'S HOUSE!!!!!

It could be worse. It could be like how my state passed this law.
First, it made it a "secondary offense". It's illegal, but you'd only get a ticket if you were pulled over for something else. "We'll never make it a primary offense".
Well, they did. It became "Click it, or Ticket". If I don't wear a seatbelt, I can now get pulled over and have to cough up $50(or whatever it is now).
