Leaked memo attacks NATO trio

NATO chief George Robertson has accused three European countries of "vandalising" the alliance by blocking an agreement on defending Turkey, according to a leaked memo seen by AFP today.

The memo also says NATO intelligence indicates Iraq has moved missiles close to the Kuwaiti border and could use them pre-emptively.

"Today's (NATO) intelligence reporting ... shows that Saddam has moved CBW-capable ballistic missiles close to the Kuwait border," Robertson says in the memo, originally reported by Belgian state television.

The NATO chief asks himself why the missiles would be moved to such a vulnerable position. "There can be only one reason: that Saddam is planning to use these weapons pre-emptively," he says.

The purpose of German and France seeking to destroy NATO is so they can form their own defense organization, paid for by the other EU countries. The solution to this problem is for the other EU countries to request the US to help them form another defense organization, excluding the dishonorable French, German and Belgiums. Those who do not keep their charge can not be permitted to partake of the security umbrella that others provide.

Verrry interesting article.

What I cannot understand is why any European leader would permit NATO to fall apart? The behavior of FG&B is foolish at best, and deadly at worst.

I hate to say this ... but it's going to take a 911-like attack on European civilians to get the weak-knee'd EUros on board.

A senior Pentagon adviser today accused France of striking a deal with Saddam Hussein to oppose military action in return for a lucrative oil contract.

Richard Perle, a former US Assistant Defence Secretary, said the French anti-war stance was driven by economic interests. French oil giant TotalFinaElf has exclusive exploration contracts worth €60bn - €75bn to develop the massive Majnoon and Bin Umar oilfields in southern Iraq, he said.

I am looking for more info and will see if I can find anymore out tonight.

Something just hit me though -- I always put Daschle on mute but standing behind him a short time ago when shown on Fox were two which I would assume to be Capitol Hill police (not sure) which is strange as I never saw that before. Cannot tell you what he said because with the RATs mute is the name of the game!

This may explain why Jay Rockefeller made a strong statement in support of the war in Iraq this afternoon.

I thought that was odd. The briefing may explain it.

I use the mute button pretty liberally as well when dealing with the 'Rats. Can't recall seeing tiny Tom accompanied before, either. Oh, boy.

I saw that, too!!! Rep. Johnson was incredible. Couldn't believe the guy was a Dem. Had to ask Mr. Mew if I was seeing things because I couldn't believe what I was hearing was coming from a Dem. Good for Rep. Andrews.

Mark Steyn has an interesting theory on that

Part of this problem is that there is a Franco-German entente underway designed to reduce the ability of Britain to oppose Continental designs within the nascent EU. That's part of what is going on here. The more pedestrian corruption tales (Europe is filled with the best politicians Saddam can buy..., that kind of thing) are there, of course, but I suspect the Frogs and the Hun are have other things in mind besides Saddam.

They fully intend to deny Blair his Second Resolution, not because they like Saddam. They know he's a jerk, and they actually expect us to go in and get him on our own. But they won't allow a specific authorizing resolution because they figure that Blair is becoming too big for his britches and is ripe for a fall, a la Maggie in October of 1991.

Chirac knows that Maggie was deposed in a palace coup in '91. Replacing her was the far more malleable John Major, who, when he wasn't screwing a female member of his cabinet on the side, was rather passive when it came to Europe. They'd love to see a Gordon Brown or someone more "European" at No 10.

A lot of this has to do with neutering British opposition to Franco-German designs and drawing Britain away from the Americans.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

On Wednesday our aircraft struck such a target. It appears the rules of engagement are that any surface-to-surface missile and ancilliary equipment detected on the ground in either "No-fly zone" will be destroyed forthwith. We don't need no stinkin' resolution.

France and Germany also want to reduce the ability of the "uppity" southern countries - Spain and Italy - to challenge their designs. I hope the US is planning on giving lots of favorable trade consideration to Britain, Spain and Italy (to say nothing of the Eastern European countries that are siding with us) after Saddam is toast. And kicking France and Germany in their weasel-teeth.

French oil giant TotalFinaElf has exclusive exploration contracts worth €60bn - €75bn to develop the massive Majnoon and Bin Umar oilfields in southern Iraq

Perle explained that the contract is overly generous to the French to the detriment of the Iraqi people, so that following our soon-to-come regime-change, this contract would be invalidated and the concession reopened to bids by all oil exploration firms (including American -- who are currently forbidden by law from engaging in joint-ventures with the Iraqi regime).
