The Unraveling of the West
Last week was a historic week that will echo down the centuries. Surprisingly, it doesn't seem like such an important week. No planes flew into buildings. No fleets were dispersed by divine winds. Rome did not burn. The harbinger of history this time was not a man leading a horde of invading horsemen out of the east, nor was he a little man with wild and dangerous dreams of conquest at the heart of Europe. This time, he was a perfectly manicured and tailored fop, at a table with a microphone.
This week, in front of the world and in the face of its enemies, the failing West informed their leader and protector for 50 years that its services were no longer needed, or desired. This little man with the arrogant tone, flushed with excitement at his task, in effect handed the United States of America its pink slip. The West it seems, is downsizing.
50 years ago the United States of America were unwillingly thrust onto the world stage. Dragged kicking and screaming into a titanic struggle for the body and soul of the West due to the utter and complete failure of "its betters" to save themselves....from themselves. The "mongrel nation" of outcasts once again poured out its blood and treasure onto the rubble of Europe and saved the West from suicide. Why were you so late? They asked.
When the smoke cleared, these former "dregs of Europe" could have turned their eyes back homeward and left the carcass of their former homelands behind them. But instead they fed the hungry, they sowed the ashes with their hard-earned gold, and they started constructing a framework of freedom and rebirth that has seen no equal in history. Not just for their friends, but for their former enemies also. They repaid blood and war with hope and charity. They lifted their enemy up out of the dirt and turned it into the economic machine that drove Europe. They restored pride and purpose to the nation responsible for the horror and carnage.
The charity and works of the United States of America did not go unopposed. The dark cloud of tyranny lived on and the United States of America were forced to shoulder the burden and pay the untold trillions necessary to hold back the tides of oppression. There was no other who could and so The United States of America DID. We too were Berliners and we were willing to pay any price to defend freedom.
And then...the shadow lifted. The walls fell, and at long last The West was reunited in freedom. From Los Angeles to Washington, D.C., to London, to Berlin, to Warsaw, to Vilnius, to Moscow, to Vladivostok what we know as Western Civilization, formerly known as Christendom, was free and facing the same shared future. The reluctant leader had led them, shepherded them, cajoled them, and encouraged them to freedom. Each and every one.
But the time of joy was too short. Evil does not rest. Satan does not suffer setback well.
On September 11th 2001 evil struck directly at the heart. The United States of America was no longer immune across the sea. Once again, the United States of America prepared to pick up its burden and lead the West, the new free West, in cleansing the earth of a threatening evil. Until this historic week that is. The week when the excited little man with the microphone informed the world that The West had disowned its leader. The world applauded. A mile away, two dead empty holes in the ground lay as a monument to The West.
This week we have been unceremoniously fired as the leader of The West, a job we never requested. The West has come unravelled.
France and Germany will now have to lead themselves, defend themselves, and together or alone, with or without hangers on, face the coming storm as their Western culture clashes with a culture that is religiously oathbound to devour them from within or without. They will have to do it without us. We, have been dismissed.
Russia has apparently made up its mind to hammer wedges into Western cracks rather than helping repair them and take up its rightful place as the easternmost representative of freedom, Western civilization, and Christendom. So be it. They also will have to defend their massive and tempting resources with their declining population and do their best....alone.
The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland will now have to make its choice. It must determine whether it will stand with us in the breach as a sovereign and independent State or choose to incorporate itself into the French and German grand coalition and accept its policy of flirting with evil to keep it at bay. The United Kingdom cannot be two things, it cannot have two destinies. It must finally take back the legacy of Winston Churchill or bury it completely.
The people of South Korea must tell us now in no uncertain terms whether our soldiers and Marines are wanted any longer. They do not stay on that cold bleak line for their own pleasure. If they are not required then we should bring them home. In fact, every nation must now make it clear to us if they are with us, against us, or just alone in the fight.
Now, we of the United States of America, must take up this burden and once more send our sons and daughters across the sea to wipe out an evil. But this time we do it for our sake alone and for the sake of those brave few little nations who are so recently free from evil that they have not yet been totally numbed to its reality. The coalition of the willing. This time we are going to have to do it in the face of the jeers, calumny, jealousy, arrogance, and the false superiority of those our fathers died to save from their own folly.
We will never be safe again behind our ocean barriers, and we can never hide our heads in the sand again. We must, from time to time, reach out and smash evil where it lurks for the sake of our own defense. We may have to do it in the face of jeers. We must continue to support and defend those who have stood with us in the fire and defend those who have never swayed from our purpose. But never again should we sail into harms way for those who are unable to appreciate our efforts or what we stand for.
This fight will be harder now. Those who we fought for, bled for, died for, and expended enormous treasure for have proven to be unfaithful in OUR hour of need. They will not be with us. In many cases they will try to cynically thwart us for their own temporary financial or strategic gain with no thought of the West as a unit. They have reached a point once again where they cannot see the scope of history. They no longer see anything beyond their own immediate interest. They will either grow up or die....alone.
Our fathers wanted peace. They marched for it. They begged their leaders to keep it. But when it was snatched away from them they went across the sea into a great, fearsome, unknown future and saved the world. Unlikely warriors that became the greatest generation. Now we have a fearsome, unknown future of our own to step into. Pray we may do as well.
A great man once said that we, The United States of America, will pay any price and fight any foe to defend freedom. Another great man once said that we have nothing to fear but fear itself. This is our heritage and we mustn't shrink from it. Even if we only have each other.
I'm becoming an isolationist. The rest of the world can go piss off as far as I'm concerned. I'm tired of their constant whining and dissing America.
France and Germany and Belgium are dowagers in steep decline physically, culturally, and morally.
Our new partners are the former Eastern bloc countries, the Polands, the Bulgarias, the Czechoslovakias, those who lived under the boot of Soviet communism for 50 years.
They know tyranny, and they are as determined as we are not to live under it again.
You're with us or against us.
Let them choose.
There are those who want to come along with us. We need to welcome them. The rest can go fry in their own grease!
SAM, do you still have the picture or a link to the story about the German destroyer crew who saluted the U.S. destroyer in English waters?
There may not be any Germans who have died for us lately, but I'm here to tell you the old Germans appreciate us like you wouldn't believe.
We need to be careful not to place too much trust in what we read in the press. It may be that 250 to 500 thousand protesors marched in the streets of Germany, yet 30 million stayed home. The government of Germany is not with us now, but Germans are...if that makes sense.
As for the French...well, what can you say about a Socialist nation that thinks they're too good for NATO?
