So when are we going to have enough shots to vaccinate the US population? Why not sooner? There's another story getting buried.

As far as I know, we already have enough for the entire population.

US warns that bioterror attack is inevitable
Financial Times ^ | Jan. 26, 2003 | Brian Groom in Davos
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/830137/posts

Since the anthrax panic of 2001, the US has increased measures against bioterrorism. Last year it spent $1.1bn (£700m), and is spending $4.5bn this year with a similar amount planned next.

It has purchased enough smallpox vaccine for the entire population, stockpiled antibiotics and other drugs at 12 sites within seven hours' reach of any community, and is seeking new vaccines for botulism, haemorrhagic fever viruses, plague and anthrax

We've already begun a program of voluntary vaccination for medical personnel, though many have declined because they don't want to risk giving the disease to their families or patients who haven't been vaccinated yet. Though that prompted many others to criticize them, I don't have a problem with it. The vaccine can be given within 4 days of onset, and everyone in the immediate area can be vaccinated at the same time.

There is so much we can learn about diplomacy from both the Germans and the French. They do these things with such elan and sophistication that I wish the Americans would finally make an effort to see things from their point of view.Once the US understands that, there will indeed be peace in our time.

Schnelle Anweisungen Für Das Errichten Eines AFDB

1. Erhalten Sie ein fünf-Fuss-Blatt der Aluminiumfolie (Reynolds Verpackung
Folie Arbeiten gut.)

gefaltet in Schritt 5 an.

7. Benutzen Sie mehr Klebeband, um AFDB an Ihr cranium zu befestigen.

This is a translation of the Letter from Schröder to Egon Krenz:

Gerhard Schröder (Hannover)
Member of the German Parlament

Herr Egon Krenz
Member of the Politburo
Marx-Engels-Platz
1020 Berlin Hannover, 31 January 1986

Dear Egon Krenz,

Thank you very much for you freindly welcome. Unfortunately, we were not able to meet personally, but I am sure we can do that another time.

The conversations in the DDR were open and informative. I was especially impressed by Erich Honnecker.

In this very intensive compaign season, I can certainly use you wishes of fortitude. But you too will also need a lot of power and, more importantly, good health for your Party's Convention and People's Chamber elections. I wish you both of these from the bottom of my heart.

Sincerly,

[signed Gerhard Schröder]

Ivan Steiger is an interesting guy. He had to flee Czechoslovakia as a young man in 1968 as the Russian tanks rolled in. Today he lives in Munich and draws cartoons for several newspapers including the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. He also has worked as a scriptwriter, film director, and published a special Bible edition. He has opened two museums featuring childrens' toys in Prague and in Munich, financed by private contributions.

I don't think it is a coincidence that cartoonist Ivan Steiger is so clear-eyed about the Islamonazi threat. Having lived under communism and experienced it first hand tends to sensitize you to the nature of totalitarianism. And of course he is a gifted artist. Just look at the economy of the drawing above, and you have to appreciate what he can do with just a few strokes of a pen.

I also found this on the web. My translation from the German follows:

Ivan Steiger:

The Bible is the decisive impulse in my life. I feel especially close to the Book of Proverbs, for I am a cartoonist. A cartoonist analyzes, identifies the characteristic elements and condenses them. That is exactly what the Book of Proverbs does. Here we find the ethical message of the Bible in characteristic capsule form.

A great deal of folk wisdom comes to us from the Holy Book. Many of these proverbs, of course, have become clichéd through overuse, or they have been worn down from being routinely spoken. My drawings present them in a new light and introduce a novel way of looking at them. In this way I hope to help people to rediscover the buried meaning of this precious wisdom for today.

Quoted from: Ivan Steiger: Gottes Auge ist überall - Das Buch der Sprichwörter in 416 Cartoons, Augsburg 1998

Yes it is. In 1998, we (from the Young Union - youth organization of the CDU/CSU) made leaflets with a copy of that letter. People weren´t surprised and said that 12 years past...

Is this for real????

Yes.

How can I be so sure? For one thing, the facsimile of the letter comes from a German website (.de domain). If Schroeder can sue a newspaper for claiming he dyes his hair, then he would surely jump on this if it were a forgery.

More importantly, though, this smarmy, communist-butt-kissing letter is entirely in character for Schroeder. Read it and weep for Germany that they elected and re-elected such a louse chancellor.
