WHAT SCHRODER COVERED UP:

Astonishing piece in the Frankfurter Allgemeiner Zeitung today. Just before the German elections last year, German intelligence found very serious evidence of Iraq's stockpiling of smallpox bioweapons. The report came with a "high degree of confidence." The piece alleges that Schroder helped bury the report, so as not to get him off-message during his anti-American campaign. I'm afraid I can't seem to find the story in the English language edition of the FAZ. But here's the German version.

Green Party member and German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer apologized for violence he committed as a militant young leftist radical following revelations of photos of him beating a downed police officer in 1973.

Prior to this statement, Fischer had said he did not regret his violent social actions against an extremely conservative Germany.

Conservatives have called for his resignation since the photos were reproduced. Gunther Beckstein of the Bavarian Christian Social Union said Fischer "is no longer tenable as Germany's representative abroad." Wolfang Bosbach, deputy parliamentary leader of the Christian Democrats, said "Anyne who behaved like that is no representative of a violence-free civil society."

Fischer will testify January 16 in the Frankfurt trial of Hans-Joachim Klein, a friend of his who is charged with three counts of murder and three of attempted murder in a 1985 attack on an OPEC ministers' meeting in Vienna. That attack was led by Ilich Ramirez Sanchez (Carlos the Jackal), who has been in jail since he was captured in France in 1998 after 23 on the run.

The Federal Government kept obviously for months realizations secret, according to which the Iraq threatens Germany over biological massenvernichtungswaffen ordered and with them.
