So why our smallpox vaccines? It was in the original inspections report "camel pox". Hold up...I'll find it.

Small pox vaccine is not even real small pox. It's a virus similar enough to where your body reacts to it and builds a defense against the similar small pox at the same time. I'm no MD, but it is possible to be vaccinated against a certain disease and build a resistance against a whole strain since they all have something in common which the vaccine targeted.
