Exactly,if that were the case we could attack Alaska without any casualties.....

The idea of the Universal Theory is very illustrative - I see it as a sort of leftwing, post-Marx amalgam of class theory and an overreliance on power relationships as descriptive of social structure. It's intellectual shorthand, easy to understand, pretty much predigested and when seasoned with a little good old-fashioned envy and hatred, very tasty to minds more attracted to certainty than truth.Excellent. Just so. Spot on.
Deserves repetition.

I have to say that at UD (a "socially conscious" Catholic campus), there are some anti-war rumblings, but most students that I encounter (and I admit, they self-select their professors) have no trouble eradicating the Iraqi regime.

The stats back that up, even on liberal campuses (which of course is the majority of them). Students are more conservative than their professors. Their lives were jarred by 9/11, and they want to get rid of the bad guys. Most of their profs are having drug flashbacks from their hippie days.
IMO this so-called 'peace movement' sang its swan song last weekend. The instigators of it will find some other way to try to destroy Western culture after this war has been won.

oWf - thank you; what a great read!!!

It's not fair, you're trying to pull back his curtain. [...] Well, so be it. If everybody thought like Saturday's marchers, it would be curtains for all of us. Not only does he have astute insight into events and causes, Steyn also has great finesse with language.
This passage is one of the most brilliant-while-right-on-target puns I've ever seen.

He outweighs all the spokesmen of the Left put together.
That's only part of it. I submit he outweighs all the pundits of any stripe in modern media. Mark combines the blazing creative cynicism of HL Mencken and the humor of PJ O'Rourke with a analytical acumen not seen in the boring baseball banalities of George Will or the not-so-subtle anti-Semitism of Joe Sobran. Steyn is this century's Mark Twain.

I picked the same paragraph -- it sums up my absolute frustration at the "peace" marchers -- such hypocrisy and willfull blindness (alltho' it could be, in some cases, simply ignorance or idiocy), so willing to sacrifice morals and truth on the altar of "pacifism"

When the left supported the communist states they at least supported what claimed to be a great and progressive ideological system (although it was not). Now, they're reduced to supporting a brutal and thuggish dictator. By disgusing themselves as environmentalists or anti-globalists the left was making a bit of a comeback in the '90's. I think their support of Saddam Hussein will do the left great damage.
