Minnesota CCW: New gun bill could make it tough to tell when it's safe

A new "right to carry" bill that would ease restrictions on concealed handguns in Minnesota causes me to think about how my life could change.

For example, I wonder if restaurants will soon offer a choice of seating in packing or nonpacking sections.

The closer we get to passage, the more extreme the opposition.

Anyone at NC State who can identify the details of the incident?

... I notice the Glock 9 she is carrying ...

There is no such pistol - the lowest numbered one is the Glock 17.

As for safety, would criminals rather go into the packing section or the gun-free section?

When I was a young assistant professor at North Carolina State University, I was in the departmental reading room eating lunch with some colleagues. At the same time, a graduate student was coming down the hall with a concealed pistol shoved into the top of his jeans.

Did he have a permit? If not, it has no bearing on the question any more than gang murders do. The question pertains to people with legally-issued carry permits.

Do you wonder how I feel knowing that everywhere I go in Minnesota I will be coming into contact with seemingly normal people carrying handguns, able to shoot dead any person who they think at that particular moment deserves it?

Well as we all know these laws are passed just to make you feel better or worse after all its YOU that counts in all we do...

Funny I feel worse knowing that only criminals are packing...and I cant

I also feel better knowing that former combat vets retired cops and responsible citizens are packing...I know the bad guys know it and think twice about committing violent crime ...

Hey jerk...in every state that allows Concealed Weapons Carry....THE VIOLENT CRIME RATE IS WAY WAY DOWN....YOU ARE SAFER...ITS A FACT...

So relax and enjoy the safety of Minnesota...get scared in Wi, & Illinois...

The more liberal state you live in the more in danger you are...Liberals "restrict the right to defend oneself against violent criminals enslaving peace lovers- in a state of fear...

Conservatives, on the other hand...wish to liberate one from fear...

Conservatives empower the heart and soul of America

Liberals wish to enslave the heart and soul and liberate the criminals

You mean the packing section or the stupid section.

Did he have a permit?

The author didn't say he had a permit... so the answer is almost definitely "no."

How would legalizing carrying for people with permits encourage suicide-murders? Not having a permit certainly didn't stop this creep from killing that woman.

This guy is an idiot. Reminds me of the shrill liberal caterwalling that we heard here in Texas shortly after then-Guv. W. signed into law a concealed-carry law.

They were SURE there would be all manner of gun-violence on the part of heretofore law-abidin' folk who would for any and sundry reason break out their pieces and begin firing away killing everyone within a 100 yards!

Well, as it turns out, folks. The only real change in people's lives is that it is now a WHOLE lot safer in Texas than it was.

Oh, and if they DO decide to divide restaurants into packing and non-packing . . . . Please reserve my seats in the "Packing" side. (ESPECIALLY when I'm NOT carrying!)

In addition to your wise comments, it's likely that the victim was not a random choice. More likely it an ex-lover, ex-girlfriend, someone the perp wanted to date, etc. If she normally carried a gun, the perp would've been much less likely to go after her with one.

Well I guess the campus police department wasn't quick enough was it?

The sniveling crybaby wants everyone to be a potential victim just like his nutless self.

New gun bill could make it tough to tell when it's safe.

Safe for whom? Safe for criminals? The bill will make it harder for criminals to feel safe attacking. Safe for tyranical government? The bill would make it harder for tyranical governmentto feel safe. Safe for frightened liberals afraid to take up the cause of their own safety. No, the bill will actually make your type SAFER.

I marvel at the way that the DFL libs seem to think that Minnesotans are more emtionally unstable and insecure than, say, Floridans. Florida has some the most relaxed carry laws in the US. But, there is no (that means NO!) recorded instances of a permitee using their weapon illegally.

But I guess that Minnesotans are more immature than the rest of the US. Damn, I am so grateful that the DFL is there to "protect" me from these unstable Minnesotans....UFF DA!!!

I guess they slipped though.. I have my permit....

While the story Mr. Leonard uses about the poor lab tech is awful and I certianly feel for her and her family, I fail to see how blocking a carry law would deter it. If some crazy was bent on commiting murder and suicide, whats one more little thing like carrying a concealed weapon? This is a poor example however. The killer in the example was walking through a school with a visable weapon (obviously not concealed if you saw it)...he was commiting a crime and should've been stopped. If he's trying to make the point that he couldn't distinguish between law-abiding and non law abiding citizens, a carry law would have helped in the mentioned situation. Most carry laws don't allow for permit holders to carry on publicly owned property, gov't owned property, schools, school functions, sporting events, political rallies, or anywhere alcohol is served ( so the restaurant example is flawed unless you're eating where they don't serve). Also, Glock doesn't make a model 9 FYI

Do I stay and finish my pasta, hoping that no one bumps into her or spills anything on her, or do I unobtrusively slip a $20 bill under my plate and nonchalantly head for the exit, hoping that I make it to the street before she erupts?

No, I pull out my 357 mag. and ask her if she would like to take a look at it. She says yes, and would I like to take a look at her Glock. I say, certianly. We become friends, then lovers, get married, have 6 kids, and live happyly ever after. LOL

I get so sick of all this liberal dribble.

Pathetic hoof-wringing bleating sheeple alert.

The wuss who wrote this article apparently has no idea of how many Americans simply ignore the illegal edicts banning them from carrying guns.

He's probably eaten at a restaurant with the guy or gal in the booth next to him packing a .45, and didn't even realize it. And now he's complaining because such action may now be made "legal".

If this "domestic enemy of the Constitution" doesn't like guns in the hands of the people, he should relocate his worthless butt to a country where the state makes sure that the people are disarmed. Red China is one that immediately comes to mind.
