Jeff Derderian, owner of The Station night club, that burned down, just made a statement and he broke up crying several times.
He wouldn't take any questions.

Why didn't the club have a sprinkler system? From what the police/governor have said, the place may well have been above the lawful capacity of 300.
Emotional outbursts do not nullify the need to answer these very pertinent questions.

This has got to hurt his business.

Translation: I and all the entities which I own will be declaring bankruptcy. I am crying because my debts from this tragedy will be declared non-dischargable, and I will be a pauper for life, and will be enduring a stain on my conscience for life that will not be cleasned.

My gut reaction is that the band guy, Jack Russell (Terrier?) is a liar.

It is curious isnt it??? I thought I read in a previous article that the building was a pre-code building so sprinklers were not required. Not sure though whether there is a law that says they need to update building code requirements.

Having played with many metalheads and seen how they behave, jack russell, most assuredly, is a lying bastid.
He's a complete a-hole.

Easy on the guy ok. You want to point a finger... point it at Great White....four clubs have come forward stating Great White had a habit of setting off pyros without permission.

Sprinklers weren't required. And for that matter, I don't recall seeing sprinklers in a lot of clubs/bars I've been to. Above lawful capacity? I doubt he's the first bar around to go above capacity for a concert.
To: BossLady
My understand is that the building passed fire inspection, and was not required to have sprinklers due to a grandfather clause. The question of whether the club was over-capacity is a good question though.

I agree. I'm in a profession where I have to be able to size people up pretty quickly. My first impression of Mr. Russell, considering everything that had just happened: "Hey! Not my fault!"

Why didn't the club have a sprinkler system? It's not required if the building is under a certain total square footage. May be wise to require sprinklers in ANY public building that has a max capacity over 75.

I heard part of it. He said Great White never asked for permission to use pyros, nor did they tell the owners they were going to use them.
