Bump!

I find this wholly fitting. It is well to honor fallen warriors of the blue and they grey.

Nice post.
I should add that both my grandfather and father rebuilt the park at Grand Gulf under contract by the Park Service in the early 60s.
Well done by all the descendents orgs.
BTTT!

Wonder how long it will take Walt to call SCV a racist organization again?

Well done the Sons organizations and the reenactors as well.
To honor a fallen foe is the proper and noble thing to do.

Our Confederates are facing a battle against a hostile enemy. But these souls are in a battle that, in some ways, is worse. Apathy.
I wish some of those so focused on our heritage would spend a little time finding their own. These men deserved honor and I'm proud of the SCV for picking up the ball.

Don't worry they will. Their thirst for self righteousness at the expense of our heritage and their alleged conservatism is unquenchable.

The above thread has Walt stewing for a rebuttal for the trip to the woodshed that GOP Capitalist just took him on....
He's preoccupied...LOL
I'm sure he or one of his sychophants will find an angle to criticize. They can't comprehend valour or honour.
They only see one thing....slavery.....like it's the worst thing that has ever happened in recorded history and should only be viewed through 21st century lenses....greater self virtue enrichment for the buck you know.

Not far from me, Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield park in Georgia contains a memorial to the thousands of Union troops who died trying to charge fortified positions, otherwise known as the "Dead Angle", at the top of Cheatam hill.
"Looking from the Union position towards the Dead Angle, just over the top of the ridge. Protected from fire after the assault because the line was placed at the geographical crest instead of the military crest, Union soldiers dig a tunnel (visible to left of sign) in an attempt to blow up the Rebel line."

Air Force Maj. Arnold Huskins, a descendant of a Confederate veteran, donned a blue uniform in honor of the 173rd unit in New York and Texas. It is very common in the re-enactor groups around here for the members to have (and wear) two separate sets of kit, one blue and one gray. My friend even has two separate sets of field gear (dog tent, rifle, etc.). During the set piece battles, most of them want to wear the gray, but since there have to be two sides in every war, some are forced to become "turncoats" at least for the one battle, and are properly razzed for it at "retreat" at the local watering hole.

"The Sons of Confederate Veterans Camps, the Sons of Union Camps and all the re-enacters did this out of their pockets," she said. "They've not asked for anything. The whole purpose was they wanted to honor those veterans, regardless of their side and race."
Both Sons,, doing what they should! Well done Gentlemen!!

All the re-enacters deserve a "Gentlemen Well Done" also, I didn't mean to leave them out.
