Based on AP headlines and the minimal daily AP newswire coverage re. Miguel Estrada, average Americans would not be informed about the serious threat to our judiciary system posed by the current actions of the Senate Democrats by their continued refusal to allow Miguel a vote.
Last night on the Senate floor, Sen. Cornyn (R-TX) said, "Six separate newspapers (editorials) have called on the Dem. Senators to stop this filibuster...Yet we hear the Democrats come to the floor and say that no one cares about this. ...that they don't have to worry about paying a political price because no one's paying attention....Is that the standard that we can expect from this body?"
Please keep writing letters to the editor.
Let the Senators know that we're paying attention.

Liberty cannot be preserved without a general knowledge
among the people...
The preservation of the means of knowledge among the lowest ranks
is of more importance to the public than all the property of all the rich
men in the country.
There is but one element of government, and that is THE PEOPLE.
From this element spring all governments. "For a nation to be free,
it is only necessary that she wills it." For a nation to be a slave, it is only
necessary that she wills it.

Today was the first day my local newspaper (Express-Times) in Easton, PA mentioned the word ESTRADA. They gave it TWO SENTENCES.
I've been e-mailing 4 different editors every favorable Estrada article that's been posted here, also with links so they can go directly to the source. They haven't responded to me once. Just about everyone you talk to has never heard of Estrada.

FYI. Let our Senators know that AP isn't covering the whole story, re. Miguel Estrada. The last Democratic Las Vegas weekend meeting received more daily coverage from AP than the unprecidented, dishonorable filibuster of this outstanding judicial nominee by the Senate minority.
E-mail AP.

The show occasionally has an interesting segment..like Novak's commentary, or some of the head-to-head debates....they rotate..Bay Buchanan Vs. Donna Brazile is interesting, and the reporter from Scripps, whose name I can't remember, Betsy something..is quite good....I set the VCR each day, it's on in the afternoon...then I'll fast forward through it at night...usually can watch all the good stuff in about 5 minutes...

It's just bidness as usual at the AP and the networks - aiming their coverage at the uninformed and pretending they're the only source of news.
NBC Nightly News did the same thing last night, with Nora O'Donnell doing a lengthy piece on the noisy but small "rebellion" in Parliament against Tony Blair by members of his own Labour Party. They even allowed one MP to finish a lengthy diabtribe containing all the discredited Bush Is A Dim-Bulb Uneducated Cowboy With No Gravitas Terry MacAuliffe DNC Fax talking points he could muster. Although O'Donnell DID finally say that "Blair prevailed in a vote," she didn't mention what the vote was - 400-something - 130-something. Nor did she mention a SECOND vote which Blair also won overwhelmingly.
They're still in Gate-Keeper Mode, hoping/thinking that if they don't report it, no one will know about it.

Just about everyone you talk to has never heard of Estrada.Thank you for sending letters to the editor. Keep writing. I sent out a few hundred last week and finally got one published in Sunday's Tampa Tribune.
There were over 2000 responses to yesterday's Estrada hearings - which is major interest from Freepers who will do much to spread the word.
This thread will hopefully show Senators and honest press people that AP's ignoring important facts about Miguel's case:
1)the historic first time any lower court nominee has been filibustered,
2)that all seven living Solicitors General (four of them Democrats) have said that the Democrats' reason for obstructing Miguel's vote - the request for privileged memos - should never be given up to a judicial committee,
3) that the 60-vote requirement is extra-Constitutional,
4) that the Democrats don't have one substantive reason to block Miguel's vote,
4) that a far left special interest group, PFAW is feeding the Senate Democrats talking points,
5) that unelected liberal law professor Lawrence Tribe (along with two of his associates) told the Democratic Senate to obstruct the President's agenda and judicial nominees at a Democratic retreat post election 2000....
and more.
Any one of those items rates at least one story. All together, they rate a continuing front page scandal about today's Democratic Senate.
We need to call Reid, Leahy, Schumer, Durbin, Clinton and Edwards and tell them that we are paying attention...and keep calling daily until Miguel's confirmed.
Those who claim we aren't paying attention, aren't listening to their constituents.

The Democrats are being
partisan and
mean-spirited.
They are responsible for gridlock.
They are shutting down the government.
They are trying to hijack the confirmation process.
All I can say is . . .
No justices, no peace.

My new talking point in Graham phone calls is roughly 80% of Floridians would vote YES on Estrada. Since Graham is not supporting, he's putting special interest groups above the wishes of his state.
Liberals love to talk about special interests, except when there LIBERAL special interests!

Sen. Cornyn (R-TX) says that the Democrats aren't worried because the American people aren't hearing about Miguel Estrada. Hah! Please help educate AP...and then call the Democrats, again! Story links above.

Maybe Graham's too big for us little Florida people. He's running for President as a Democrat which means he must appease the far left special interest groups - the socialist wing of the Democratic party (perhaps because the socialist party is the largest in the world, UN first! No more borders! We are the world! Constitution?).
Sen. Jeff Bingaman (D-NM) actually repeated the "Miguel is not mainstream" talking point today. I laughed out loud and then called his office.
Today's Democratic Party: Mainstream? By the Numbers: CBC, CHC + Progressive Caucus [it's not about "race"].

Dems. are gloating, claiming that the American people aren't hearing about Miguel so they won't have to pay a political price for their current misbehavior. We can fix that.
AP's slacking. Send them this thread. 10 post-recess articles on the AP newswires is nothing. Show them what others are writing (links here) and keep calling the Senators. Over 2000 responses on yesterday's live Estrada hearing thread. America is paying attention!
