I hate to say it, but the people of Hong Kong have done it to themselves. Perhaps they dont realise just what kind of a position they were in when their sovreignty was handed back over to Beijing in 97. They were a very special case and all eyes of the world were upon them and in some ways, still are.
Hong Kong is not like Beijing (1989), they are still in a position to fight, I do not seriously believe that the world or even the British, would stand by and watch or allow the govt. to react with brutality if the people of Hong Kong stood up to heavy hand of Beijing and protested in the streets as the students did in Tiananmen on June 4. Hong Kong could very well lead the way for the rest of China, but I know thats just wishful thinking (On a long long shot) and it would never happen. So, if the people choose to be lead like sheep, they shall be slaughtered the same.

So, if the people choose to be lead like sheep, they shall be slaughtered the same. The people of Hong Kong have no freedom now. Article 23 is only a formality.
It is not clear what the H.K. people choose because they don't have any real freedom to choose -- now.

The people in Bejing will do nothing, just like the people in the U.S. do nothing while it happens here.
