Terrorists linked to al Qaeda have targeted U.S. military facilities in Pearl Harbor, including nuclear-powered submarines and ships, The Washington Times has learned.

Intelligence reports about the terrorist threat to the Hawaiian harbor bombed by the Japanese in World War II were sent to senior U.S. officials in the past two weeks and coincided with reports of the planning of a major attack by Osama bin Laden's terrorist group. Officials said the reports were one of the reasons that led to the recent heightened security threat alert. The alert status has since been lowered.

Flying jetliners into submarines sounds like one of the stupider alleged terrorist schemes I could imagine. Why would the terrorists wanna make life that difficult for themselves?

We need to move in some human shields asap.

I volunteer Martin Sheen, George Clooney, Mike Farrell, Barbra Streisand, Susan Sarandon for starters.

Al Qaeda Planned to Target Pearl Harbor-Report

March 3

— WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda network planned to attack the United States naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, using hijacked airliners, The Washington Times reported on Monday.

The potential targets included nuclear powered submarines and ships, the newspaper said.

Intelligence reports about the threat to the naval base were sent to senior U.S. officials in the past two weeks and coincided with reports that al Qaeda was planning a major attack, the newspaper reported.

The CIA had no immediate comment on the report. A spokesman for the Pentagon was not immediately available.

The newspaper said officials pointed to the intelligence reports as a factor in the U.S. government's decision earlier this month to raise the terror threat level to orange, or "high" risk of attack.

The terror threat level was lowered one notch on Thursday to yellow, or "elevated" risk of attack.

The Washington Times cited officials familiar with the intelligence reports as saying that al Qaeda was planning to take aim at Pearl Harbor because of its symbolic value. Pearl Harbor was bombed by the Japanese, which began the United States involvement in World War II.

The newspaper said another reason al Qaeda considered targeting Pearl Harbor was because its military facilities are open from the air.

Bin Laden's al Qaeda network was blamed for the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks in which four hijacked planes crashed into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a Pennsylvania field, killing more than 3,000 people.

Yeah... let them try to recreate "The Day That Lives In Infamy." They think it would bring us to our knees. They don't know us Americans very well. We'd come and kick their asses to kingdom come.

The Pearl Harbor target, any coincindence?

If bin Laden can overlook differences with the dreaded 'socialists' in Iraq to fight the US, how much are the Chinese paying bin Laden for his support of the ChiCom goals?

If al quade thinks pearl has emotional significance for the US, they are a stupid group. Pearl is remembered only by people born before 1975. If you ask anyone born afterward, they would be hard pressed to know anything about it. Basically, you remember if you were alive in 41 or if your dad was alive in 41. You don't much care if your grandad was alive in 41.

I suppose Al-Qaeda hasn't heard what happened to the last bunch of idiots that decided that Pearl Harbor was a tempting target; only this time, it won't take almost 4 years to nuke them back through the Stone Age.

What idiots, these Islamofascists!

Can't they see that they would unite Americans as they have never been united before!? Why, that would be the beginning of their absolute worldwide obliteration.

Even Japan will run this story with a tinge of "What? My goodness, how stupid of those terrorists to think they would demoralize Americans by bombing that port in the Pacific".....

To paraphrase Adm. Halsey's sentiments when he sailed back into Pearl, "Before we're through with 'em, the Arabic language will be spoken only in hell!"
