Ten songs into the Pretenders' Saturday show at the Warfield, singer- guitarist Chrissie Hynde pithily summed up her group's enduring appeal and, in the process, the appeal of rock music as a whole.

"I think our band represents all the great losers of the world," she told a cheering sold-out crowd. "Because it's all about the losing." With that, she handed off her guitar, grabbed the microphone and led the Pretenders into the power ballad/anti-anthem "The Losing," off their 2002 album, "Loose Screw."

I hate to say it, but I love her stuff. "Every Mother's Son" always gives me chills when I hear it.

The 2 finger salute she's giving means "F" "U" in the UK, where she's been living for the past 20+ years.

The last time I saw her on television she was wearing a very very short miniskirt, and she looked old and haggard. You can't tell in that photo, but she looks 60 at the least.

I am a huge fan of the Pretenders too, and agree what she said was really stupid, and shocking and disappointing too. The early albums were the best but the concerts are as good as ever...Actually I could never believe she would let Rush Limbaugh use her "Ohio" for his show. I cannot believe she would be a fan of his on any level!

Don't search by title - search by a significant word in the title. In this case I did a search for the word, 'Deserve' - sans quotes, of course. Worked fine. ;-)
