Park Service Seeks to 'Modify' Controversial Lincoln Video

(CNSNews.com) - A National Park Service advisory panel has recommended changing a controversial video at the Lincoln Memorial, the content of which implies to tourists and others watching, that America's 16th president would have supported abortion and homosexual "rights."

The Park Service's cultural resource staff issued "an option paper" that recommends "trying to modify" the video in order to "give adequate representation" to all political views, according to David Barna, chief spokesman for the Park Service.

The review occurred after National Park Service Director Fran Mainella and several employees watched the Lincoln tape, which had been the subject of a CNSNews.com report.

Barna announced that while no final decision has been made, the Park Service will "move pretty quick" and "wants a solution soon" because director Mainella has made it a priority.

The changes are being sought in order to "satisfy comments from the public," according to Barna.

Barna said some Park Service employees felt the video's "overlaying of Lincoln's face and (impersonated) voice, implied endorsement of liberal causes."

"Most people would view the [video's] visuals as being a very one-sided representation of liberal causes," Barna said in an interview with CNSNews.com.

Barna cautioned, however, that "adding conservative footage" to politically balance the video would be costly because of technical issues.

"None of it is going to be cheap ... making changes to the video will be more expensive than thought." Barna explained.

The video features an actor impersonating Lincoln's voice over visuals of protest marches. Some of the visuals include signs and banners reading "The Lord is my Shepherd and Knows I am Gay," "Gay & Lesbian Sexual Rights," "Council of Churches Lesbian Rights," "National Organization for Women," "Reagan's Wrongs Equal Women's Rights," "ERA Yes," "Ratify the ERA," "I Had An Illegal Abortion In 1967 - Never Again," "Keep Abortion Legal," "I Am Pro-Choice America,"

Better file it in the round file, then, and start afresh.

Just put the video in the trash. Don't start afresh. Go find a job somewhere else instead. Working at a Walmart, maybe. I know -- that would be too much trouble.
