I thought Gilbert, herself, is conservative which is why the election of being president of the guild was so suprising...

Did you mean, "I thought Gilbert was a conservative. This is why her being elected as the president of the Screen Actors Guild was so surprising."

Blacklist indeed!

I believe a "blacklist" would be when a person's political views are used to prevent them from finding employment (kinda like what happens to any actor who comes out as a conservative). What is happening now is called "market forces". Ms. Gilbert obviously does not understand this concept. You put out a product to the public, Ms. Gilbert, and then the public decides (for whatever reason) to purchase or not to purchase that product.

If you are having problems selling your product, then the thing to do is to evaluate what might be going wrong, or why the public is not interested in what you are selling. Of course, if you are a Hollywood movie star, you instead begin whining about how unfair it all is.

The movie going public and the people who watch television afford these actors the life styles they enjoy. These actors can continue to make their choices on what they choose to speak out about, but the American viewing public has just as much right to reject them and their views when they see fit. That is America, the country that gives us the freedom to choose.

You got that right and Hollywood can Kiss My ***!

As for Gilbert and trying to blame the Government ...

TRY LOOKING IN THE MIRROR HONEY .. the government didn't make YOU and the other Nit Wits bash this country

The late Nigel Hawthorne once said this about keeping his homosexuality quiet:

He once said of his relationship: "Flaunting your sexuality offends people and what's the point in doing that if you are trying to win them over?"

I think the same could be said of actors and their political views.

It's worse than that. It is saying that an actor/actress, where boycotts which made them radioactive, should still be considered for, perhaps even given, roles by a company looking to make money off their marketability.

Throw in the taunts of censorship and McCarthyism when no one has been black listed and you see the hysterical reaction to a problem that is not there(ie blacklist a coordinated effort by employers to prevent employment). Now flip it and the left will boycott, call for laws against and work in the back cenes to punish those who do not agree with them. Look at how conservative actors and actresses are treated.

All of this delay the day of invasion of Iraq, which allows Saadam extra, time to prepare his defenses. A better-prepared Iraq could mean more American dead and a more costly war. This in my mind is giving aid and comfort to the enemy. I say hang’em from the tallest tree as a warning to those would follow their example.

Applause!!! Excellent points!

You know The Waltons has to be boycotted to....Will Geer was a flaming communist and homosexual.

Does that mean I can't watch "The Brady Bunch" anymore?
