I like the sentiment, but how much is this going to cost taxpayers?
Sorry, I'm cynical when it comes to my money.

"Watching France's self -serving politics of passive aggression in this effort has discouraged me more than I can say."

And much of America agrees with this exact sentiment.

LOL!

When the War on Terror started, my wife and I started calling the afghans in our house "victory blankets".

EVERYONE can participate in boycotting the French.

Next time you are at your local grocery store...ask the store manager NOT to purchase French items!

Is it possible to think of something that would have less actual impact on the French?

The restaurant menus in the three House office buildings will change the name of "french fries" to "freedom fries," a culinary rebuke of France, stemming from anger over the country's refusal to support the U.S. position on Iraq.

Boy, I betcha France won't mess with us again after this daring move.

What about Mr. French? You know, the guy on Family Affair.

Do we call him Mr. Freedom?

If they called them "shoestring potatoes", they wouldn't have to change the menus back when the tiff blows over.

"The name changes were spearheaded by two Republican lawmakers who plan to hold a news conference later Tuesday to make the name changes official on the menus."

Although the sentiment is correct....Is this the best our lawmakers can do????

When done by a resturaunt owner the change is cute and patriotic......

When legislated by a US Senator or Congressman, it is pathetic, childish and impotent....If they want to stand up and be counted then do their job! Not legislate the name of items on the lunch cafeteria menu dammit!

Talk about ineffective......Slap a tariff on French goods...even pass a non-binding resolution (ball-less but at least legislative), but lunch menus?

Geeezzzzz....

This just in:

Julia Child has announced that she is considering referring to herself as The "Freedom" Chef. In response, the French are reportedly "very hurt" and are now reconsidering whether to veto the new UN resolution.

Will keep you posted as the situation develops.

I saw a Congressman (Jim Saxton??) this weekend say that he was proposing a resolution that would bar American support for the Paris Air Show. He said that 47% of the companies participating in tis extravaganza are American. He thinks we should keep our $$$ home, and I agree.
