Has anybody else had this happen?

When I log onto the internet, I am used to seeing the MSN Home page. At least up until last night. Now what I get is some garbage called "Indian Snakes". I know that I did nothing to change my opening page to the 'net.

I provided the link ( I think :-)).

I have attempted to contact MSN for support on to NO avail. Can anyone give me a suggestion on what to do to correct this problem?

Thanks in advance for any input at all.

This has happened to me before, not with "Indian Snakes," though. Some web pages change your settings. You can go into "tools" then "internet options" and switch it back.

For starters, change your browser's home page settings. In Internet Explorer, click Tools>>Internet Options>>General. Enter your preferred home page in the Address box.

In Netscape, click Edit>>Preferences>>Navigator. Type your preferred home page in the Location box.

You're not done yet. You must eliminate the script that's changing your Registry or that snake page will be switched back every time you boot up. Click Start>>Run. Type msconfig and press Enter. Under Startup, uncheck any command with "regedit" or "reg" in it. Click OK.

Howie- a couple of addresses for free software to help protect your privacy and detect and erase spyware:

Ad-Aware is available from here

Spybot Search and Destroy here

These programs, I believe, are indispensable to anyone connected to the Internet- I run mine most every day. When run for the first time, you may be amazed at what they find.

How do these work? These are free, right? Just download and run? Anything special to do to get the free versions? Thanks

May I weigh in here with a question?

Somehow my browser, MSIE latest version, not sure of number, has gotten the idea that I want to log off of Free Republic each time I shut my 'puter down. I have to re-log in to FR each time I acces the site.

When I log in each time I always click on the option that is supposed to leave me logged in.

Any suggestions what I can correct so that this won't happen?

Thanks, Axel

I had the same problem. Try this, log in and then take the next page and add that to your favorites and call it FreeRepublic.

I don't know why or how it works but it sure beats logging in everytime. Good Luck.

Do you have cookies disabled?

Not totally, my browser, I just checked, was set on a low setting. Apparently rejecting some cookies, I have set it to accept all cookies, will see what happens.

Regards, Axel

Free Republic isn't your home page?

I thought that was a condition of being a member here. Somebody needs to be excommunicated...

Oblique reference probably done by American software engineers who have seen their jobs exported to India.

Yes, completely free, no hidden agendas etc. Developed in response to increasing prevalence of spyware, foistware etc. Both these programs are getting to be well known for what they do. Download, install, run.
