hey there Nick. I am an out of work attorney, and I understand totally your frustration. Heads up! Like Shannon said- way to go for realizing you made a mistake.

And, guess what? When my husband and I got married, he'd been out of college one week and didn't have a job either. He went to work as a stocker for Lowe's at $6.50 an hour. I still married him--and so will your fiance. She loves you for who you are, not what job you have. And it's so much easier sharing expenses!!

I will certainly pray for you, and the rest of us unemployed Freepers. Try to keep your spirits up- planning a wedding can be SUCH a fun time. And marriage comes with all sorts of opportunies for free entertainment. ;-D

Here's a quick update:

I have called the local hospitals and got them each to send info on their Radiography programs. I have also searched local businesses for job openings and I am heading now to Wheeling Hospital to put in an application for a training analyst job. It requires someone with experience in Office suite and other software to help teach others to use it. It is right down my ally. I am also going to my college and heading into the career office for assistance. After that I'll be heading to 2 local ISPs t drop off resumes. Thanks for all your prayers! I'll keep you posted.

Nick

I know how you feel. One month ago my employer dropped my benifits after one year.I just turned 50 yrs old, have lung disease,hypo-thyroid disease, emphysema and possible lung cancer.I filed numerous grievences against the company and then was fired under bogus charges. I am now trying for unemployment benifits, which I'm sure my ex-company will put up a fight. I have tried in vain to find another job,but no one wants to hire a 50 yr.old with health problems. My next step is to try for disability, which I'm sure wont't be easy.I feel like giving up but I refuse to! I will remember you in prayer and hope you remember me.

Ok, I know this might seem a little bit of a wait since my last update but I've been busy. I have placed resumes at at least 20 companies. Of course the wait is the hardest part. I did get to talk to a few people with power who seemed very interested. The first was a lady who owned an ISP who is not hiring but outsources all her web page building and said she'll pass along any she thinks I could handle. She also asked if she could pass my resume on to a friend of hers that might be hiring. The second was a manager of a Radio Shack. He wants me to go to a open house Radio Shack is having in Steubenville Tuesday night where he said they are interviewing for positions in the area. I'll be heading there then and will let you know.

Thank you all for the prayers.

Nick

Patience, and I'm happy to offer prayers.
Just remember God is control, and as long as you rest entirely on Him you'll be well (maybe not rich - but well). Here's praying that good opportunities come their way.

Been there; done that; got the t-shirt...
Only advice I can give you is (for what its worth)
.. get a job doing something you enjoy doing, money being secondary.
.. buck it up and don't give up; persistence is the key.
Best of luck.

"...wasted a full week in pursuit of nothing..."
OH, hell, now. That ain't nothing.
I've wasted more time than that trying to figure out what I did with my danged clothes.
You just got to keep-on keeping-on !
Jobs are out there - you just have to have an edge on the competition.

here's another update:

I did go to the Radio Shack interview. That was a week ago. Since then war has broke out and the world is a different place. I still don't have a job however. Radio Shack is telling me that they have still not hired anyone and the guy I have spoke to is saying he is waiting for word on how many positions to hire for. I have an interview at Adecco tomorrow, a temp agancy. Anybody have info on those?

I do have one other option that my aunt is trying to stress to me. She says to get a part-time job and go to college full-time. Her logic is that the longer I go to school trying to get a 2 year degree in 3 or 4 years and maybe longer the less I'll enjoy life and a decent pay. One way, going to college full time, will only have me penny pinching 2 years then at least having a chance at a better job sooner. The other way I have to juggle constantly to get school in and it takes longer to accomplish my goal of completing college. Of course going full-time to college will mean getting larger school loans and grants to supplement my income. What do you guys think? I am sure I have messed up the arguments for and against this but FReepers are smart enough to get my point I'm sure. Thanks for all the prayers.

PS I went yesterday to watch a church program called Heavens Gates and Hell's Flames and have to say it rocks. The church I went to has reported over 100 saved each night its played and have extended it I believe two nights so far due to people having to turn away because there has been no parking left. Absolutly amazing. I redeicated my life afterwards because I know I have been getting lukewarm here recently. It's a real eyeopener.

I'm praying for you. I just know that the delay was for a better job.
Let go and let God, the way you've shown your faith in Him by this post. (and may we both quit being afraid.)

Hang in Nick. I will keep you in my prayers. Heck, we all will. Many of us, including myself, have been where you are now.

I am getting married in little more then 3 months and you all will probably understand my urgency and feelings of fear in not having a job.

Do not fear. Do not despair. Don't go down that road. Satan will be waiting for you there. And never, ever give up. Ever.

You are talented and worthwhile. I've never met you but I know this. I know this because you have a woman who has fallen in love with you and is going to marry you. They are very perceptive creatures you know.

Good luck, my FRiend.

Keep the faith, Nick! My husband has had his own business that he has started from scratch (about 7 years now). We are still struggling. It's a computer software company, so you know how that is. You may have to settle for less than you are used to, but you will discover strengths you never knew you had. :)

Well, one month out of work is not that bad in the grand scheme of things. It says good things about you that your freak-out warning system is kicking in so early :-)
