Good point, lost on many. Shock and awe is in the eye of the recipient, not the bystander. We have no reason to shock the Iraqi people in general. The target is the regime.

I think most Americans view the situation in Germany very differently from France. Your Chancellor is not thought of very highly, but having been in Germany last November I know that many of your countrymen believe everything they've heard about our president from CNN, and that in and of itself explains a lot.

I did point out to one fellow (who explained that he understood America very well because he attended UC Berkeley in the 60's!) that I'd be glad to compare his diplomas from Harvard and Yale with Bush's.

Bush is anything but stupid. However, and no offense is intended to you or your country, I have to say I've got the opposite impression of Herr Schroeder.
