.c The Associated Press
Reaction to the military strikes against Iraq:
``Rock 'em hard, rock 'em to sleep. I'm a hard core Bush supporter until I die.'' - Bob Elliott, 23, a student at Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Mo.
``My hopes are just dashed because I really didn't think there was going to be a war. I am ashamed to know I live in a country where the leader is so ... addicted to violence.'' - Victor Marshall, 46, in his New York City deli.
``9-11 was the catalyst. Having been in the city on that day, and seeing how the streets were so empty and the sky smelling so bad, it really reminded me that we had to do whatever we had to do. And tonight is the night.'' - Greg Packer, 39, a highway maintenance worker from Long Island, in New York's Times Square.
``I just hope this time we go in there and get the job done. Last time we had innocent people killed and it didn't solve anything. That's what worries me.'' - Omar Escobar, 32, of McAllen, Texas.
``I think we are doing the right thing because Saddam is a threat, not only to us but to other countries as well. I think he has weapons of mass destruction. I think our country would be better off without him there.'' - John Alex, 37, an Atlanta banker.
``I can imagine my mom. She's holding her chest. She has a bad heart. ... He needs to be removed, but there were a thousand other ways to do it.'' - Nael Hamdi, 45, an Iraqi native living in Toledo, Ohio, whose family lives in Baghdad.
``My brother is a Black Hawk helicopter pilot, so I support the armed forces. But I think Bush thinks it's the U.S. way or no way.'' - Mark Saiz, 34, a Santa Fe, N.M., real estate agent.
``I hope and pray that it is going to be easy. But I'm not sure that it's going to be as easy as we think.'' - Gulf War veteran David Worley of Louisville, Ky.
``I don't care what party you're affiliated with. We all live in the USA. so we need to support our president. I'm behind the president, 100 percent. If you don't like it, leave.'' - John Adamonis, 46, of Cumberland, R.I.
``It's horrible. It's going to kill so many innocent people. Americans are going to be over there so long, it's going to be like colonialism with the British.'' - Tina Suleiman, 20, of Dearborn Heights, Mich., who has relatives in Jordan.
``I hope they made the right decision in what we are doing because in doing this, we're losing a lot of ties with other countries. I don't want a World War III.'' - Meagan MacLeod, 22, of New Bedford, Mass.
``I'm glad we have not relied on the permission of other countries to do what we know needs to be done.'' - Julie Nelson, a 29-year-old saleswoman from Minneapolis.
``As we confront the reality of war, let Scripture be our guide: `Blessed are the peacemakers.' ... We worry about the millions of innocent lives that are jeopardized whenever there is a war, and we pray for our own American troops who are in harm's way.''
Cardinal Adam Maida, Roman Catholic archbishop of Detroit.
``The beauty of our country is that people are able to have their feelings and each one is as beautiful as the other.'' - Jim Wiley of Tampa, Fla., who sang ``God Bless America'' at a karaoke bar in Scottsdale, Ariz., after Bush's speech.
And the evidence of that addiction from past history is?????
20 yrs old and never took an American history class....so sad....
Suleiman the Magnificent ruled from 1520-60. He developed the power of the Ottomans to its greatest extent - from Asia Minor to North Africa. He captured Belgrade, subjugated Hungary after the battle of Mohacs (1526) and besieged Vienna (1529). After his fleet became the dominant power in the Mediterranean Sea he conquered Tripolis in North Africa. After the abdication of the last Abbasid Caliph he took Persia (1534); Baghdad declined subsequently to the rank of a provincial city; and the Persian Shiites became the Ottomans' bitter enemies.
If you think our leader is addicted to violence, I wonder what the hell you'd think about the Iraqi leader. If you're so ashamed, then get the hell out of here. Move to France, you worthless worm!
"STFUAGWTP!" (Shut the _____ up and get with the program!)
