Airspace as in overflights only. No airbase use. No troops.

Isn't that sort of like Ecuador declaring war on Japan 5 days after the A-bomb was dropped in 1945?

AFTER the war has already started. Plus, we cannot use our own planes in that war if they are based in Turkey, nor can we use bases WE BUILT in Turkey in support of that war. WHAT A JOKE!!!

With allies like this, who needs enemies?

Henceforth we have no need for any bases in Turkey (they are useless under these conditions anyway). Furthermore, we have no need for any American personnel in Turkey. We do not want them to be used as hostages if we have to fight Turkey to keep the TURKS out of Iraq.

Turkey Approves U.S. Overflights to Iraq

ANKARA (Reuters) - Turkey's parliament on Thursday approved a motion allowing overflights by U.S. warplanes involved in the war against Iraq (news - web sites), a parliamentary deputy told Reuters.

The vote could help the United States shorten the war and also cleared the way for Turkish troops to be deployed in northern Iraq, a prospect viewed with concern by Washington and Kurdish groups in the area.

The motion was approved by 332 members of the 550-seat assembly, with 202 against and one abstention. Turkey hopes the vote will encourage the United States to release aid for its fragile economy.

A previous motion allowing for a full-scale land invasion by U.S. troops from Turkish soil was rejected by parliament on March 1 in a major upset for the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP).

Failure of the first motion resulted in the loss of a multi-billion dollar U.S. financial aid package intended to shield Turkey against the impact of war.

The overflight agreement, while falling well short of the "northern front" option sought by Washington, could allow the U.S. military to deploy limited forces in northern Iraq to harry Iraqi troops.

The US had changed her request of Turkey early this week to only contain overflight authorization..

LOL, everyone but Turkey armed those damned terrorists. Now 20 years of ignorant and bad foreign policy is going to come home to roost on every nation. By the way, I'm sorry to hear about the bus station bombing this morning. I hope Turkey shoots every PKK terrorist and supporter as we are going to do with everyone who resists us in Irak. Good luck to you and yours.

Too little, too late. Hope they have the sense to keep their forces out of Kurdist-- oops, I mean (for the moment, anyway...) Northern Iraq.
