Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:
To all who helped this get started, thank you!
Special thanks to An.American.Expatriate for staring the daily threads, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, and, of course, Belly Girl...

1st Marine - 3rd LAR - Rick levanthal: Firefight over. "There have been no Marine casualties. "Sustained barrage of firefire out into the desert." Dark. There were Iraqis in the desert. They fired on them. Their mission was successful. "These guys are professionals." Calm.

agreed will do

no offense..but that soldier COULD be my husband, and I would want this entire country enraged on his behalf.
To: mewzilla
I'll refrain from commenting on that statement.

We have two daughters. One is an Army Captain and the other is a Marine Corps Staff Sergeant. Our son is a firefighter. I wouldn't want to see pictures like that of mu kids regardless of the circumstances, war or peace.
To: SoldiersGirl
Would you want to stumble on your husband's picture on the internet before someone has told you he is dead?
To: killjoy
I just read the AR15 trigger stuff. I'm planning to put in a 4 1/2 - 1lb two stage Bushmaster unit for DCM competition. It only takes 4 or 5 minutes to switch back.
Thanks. I'm thinking of trying a 1/7 barrel as well (once I get the headspace gauge). I doubt that I will need it as self-defense for the foreseeable future. The 12 gauge pump and 696 should serve that purpose nicely.

You just did.
To: ican'tbelieveit
of course not, nor would anyone. I am taking the risk of bing on the internet knowing how dirty people can be. I am choosing to be here..I could very well find out about my husbands death on here before I was informed, pictures or not.
To: mewzilla
Ok, now I will. That was one stupid ass statement.

My thoughts on volunteer human shields and anti troop protests are not for publication.

i agree...i do think all family members should be notified.....FIRST....then let the people see it...saddam's regime needs to be exposed as often as possible...the media does not harp on this ENOUGH
To: SoldiersGirl
do you think that we don't know where our men are? When we hear 3rd ID on the news..we know it could be our husband, when we see 101st attacked, we know it could be our husband...if you think we have to wait for the death patrol to knock on our door before we know, then you are sadly mistaken.
To: SoldiersGirl
I would want this entire country enraged on his behalf. I would want that too. While some of the people in this country are on your side (most of us, in this action), not all of 'em are. See the protesters advocating US troops to kill their officers. See CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS.
To: SoldiersGirl
That is not the point I am trying to make. I am trying to make the point, that as conservatives, we should show more compassion toward the families of our soldiers. As far as I have seen on the media this morning, the names of the soldiers have not been released, so I will not assume that all families have been notified. After that, feel free to show these pictures.
To: ican'tbelieveit
I AM the family of these soldiers. I do agree they should be informed first...absolutely...but we all understand that it may not always happen that way, and we are ready for it.
