Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:
To all who helped this get started, thank you!
Special thanks to An.American.Expatriate for staring the daily threads, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

With a thread like this, I generally go to the last post and read the final 100 and keep up from there... then put #1 in a different window and try to plow through the earlier ones when I feel up to it.

Please note, because the Turks jurked us around we couldn't send in the big guns from the north, but they will soon be rolling in from other locations.....
the Iraqi "white Flag killers" is all they have left.....when the 4ID rolls up the supply line, everything hostle will die.
This war will be history in a very short period of time.....
It will be recorded as a brilliant campaign that did what it had to do....

Good morning, Timeout. I see that once again I have a lot to catch up on. Goodness, sleep gets in the way for us news junkies.
To: AFPhys; Freedom'sWorthIt
I do the same.....for obvious reasons, but also because, by the time you get to the end, more facts have come in, whereas earlier posts may not be as factual or may be corrected, as provided by media/news conferences.....then I go back and read what the original idea/comments were by going back to individuals responses to particular posts.....otherwise, in posts of literally thousands, I'd never get to what's current.....I don't have the ability to stay on FR sometimes for very long periods of time.... : )

Was there any official word from the Pentagun (as the Brits like to say) about the 2 missyles (as the Brits like to say) that went "astray" into Turkey?
To: AFPhys
My guess regarding the Osprey and loss of one prop is that as long as it's going forward, it's quite similar to a twin-prop plane losing an engine. The very tricky part is landing because the props in plane mode extend way below the landing gear.
So, what did I miss last night?

Good morning, all!
Well, I must leave for work in a half-hour, but I thought I'd comment.
It looks like were slamming the Medina division, both last night and this morning. Apparently, the Medina was the unit that the Apaches went after last night. I thought we were working over the Hammurabi division.
Can't be right all the time.
Anyhoo, I wish one of you folks could find a layout of the Iraqi OOB in front of Baghdad. It would be nice to know which division has which area of defense (and, who gets to die first).
Be Seeing You,
Chris

No, you are right about the auto-rotate business. With large choppers that is really only good for the last few feet of descent - witeness all these transport crashes. We are going into new territory here with the height and speed that the V-22s have. I hope they work it out as it is one more edge our people will have. The Marines are absolutely fanatical about this one. Has to make you think that there is a reason for it.

BUFFs ... "We aim to please." The Navy pilots often only get to "aim two please"
BUFF pilots always get to do a whole lot of aiming, and a whole lot more pleasin' ... even when they're doin' it with the biggest boys.

I suspect you're right about the theory of a one-prop Osprey, steve, but I sure as heck don't want to be the test pilot finding out. Right now, I don't think I like the thought of being a trained pilot being caught in a sudden failure. I suppose it might be able to autorotate somewhat safely if you reacted in time, but I'm skittish about that thought.
I'll do a search ... I think it was Timeout who did a good synopsis of the earlier posts...

I definitely hear you. It is an almost-new technology (IIRC, the earlier attempts have all stopped early in the development stage).
Fox - 3 missiles have been fired at Kuwait earlier today. 2 landed in the Persian Gulf, the third was intercepted.

Chris, do you have a link to a map that shows the coalition's movements? I can't do screen captures. Am saving stuff in a scrapbook for my kids.
Thanks.
