Lindsey Ryan found safe

(Sacramento-AP-March 24, 2003, 1:45 p.m.) A 14-year-old missing Michigan girl was recovered safely.

Her adult companion was arrested without incident northwest of Reno, Nevada, the California Highway Patrol said.

A trooper spotted a "suspicious looking vehicle" near Susanville, California around 9:30 PST this morning. Spokesman Tom Marshall says the trooper stopped the car. He says Lindsey Ryan was inside, along with the driver, Terry Drake who is 56.

Drake, a convicted murderer, had been considered to be heavily armed in part with weapons stolen from Ryan's residence.

Ryan left her home near Jones, Mich., a small town near the Indiana state line, early on March 1 to meet Drake a short distance away, police said. The two left the area together in Drake's white 1995 Dodge Dakota pickup truck. Authorities had been searching for her ever since.

There is no doubt she left willingly, but that doesn't make it any easier for the family. I really don't think she had any idea what type of danger she subjected herself to.

Some teens do really stupid things, I'm just glad she is alive to learn from this mistake...I hope.

Praise God she is back. I have read threads on whether or not she went on her own. It doesn't matter. She is still a child and needed to be found. My prayers are with her and the family for a fast recovery now that she is home. The family can get on with life now.

I'm happy that she's safe as well. But this isn't your typical kidnapping. She "met" this freak on the internet, and apparently stole $4,000 and numerous firearms from her family in order to hit the road with him.

Not exactly Elizabeth Smart.
