I am not trashing them myself. This is an embedded reporter, which establishes credibility in itself.

But, I want confirmation simply because we have been burned too often these past couple days.

Impossible. If Iraq has chemical weapons, why didn't the UN inspectors find them?

Because the UN inspectors were not allowed to inspect military bases.

bluecollarman:

I agree. CBN is a very credible news organization. I've never found them to report anything but truth. They may focus on things differently, as you might expect, but their usually very accurate.

If the Iraqis have any of that secret Russian stuff, it would explain why Saddam seemed so sure of himself...

It doesn't seem likely that Russia would sell him the front line stuff--at least not as a government level policy--because of the repercussions. However, Russia doesn't seem to exercise full control over what comes out of there, so it could happen. From what I've heard, Putin is regaining some semblance of control, but things had gotten pretty loose while his predecessor hit the bottle.

They didn't go to find, they went to inspect. That which were shown to them did not have chemical weapons.

If this is TRUE, the U.N. just became the most irrelavent organization on the face of the Earth.

You get the empty shells, and they're filled JUST prior to use.

The report implies that: "And they’ve captured a man who mixes the chemicals, that was his job with the Medina Division which is the division we're facing right now near the city of Karbala."

This sounds plausible, at least. Could still be a rumor, but if they've actually got (and are interrogating) a chemical guy....

Iraq has declared that it weaponized for chemical weapons purposes the following munitions: RPG-7 rocket-propelled grenades and 82mm and 120mm mortar shells exclusively for CS; 130mm and 155mm artillery shells for mustard agent; 250- and 500-gauge aerial bombs for mustard, tabun, sarin and CS; 122mm rockets, R-400 and DB-2 aerial bombs for sarin and mixtures of GB/GF; and Al Hussein missile warheads for sarin. Of these, Iraq acquired the capability to produce all of the aerial bomb types listed and the Al Hussein missile warheads and chemical containers for 122mm rockets. It was reliant on imports of the other empty munitions but had the capability to empty conventional artillery shells and aerial bombs for subsequent refill with chemical-weapons agent. </>

It will be intersting to see just how old these shells are.

Why are all you guys trashing CBN?

Because the revelation is obscured by the "Christian" part of it. The best way to bolster the "planted WMD" theories is by the first of these stories being bbroken by the Jerusalem Post and Christian Broadcasting. Think about it.

I am certain WMDs are there, but I'd rather have CNN break the story than this.

Oh something about how he claimed during his presidential run that he'd asked God to change the direction of a hurricane, and God did as requested.

Am I correct in assuming that you trust Saddam's word more than the word of a fundamentalist Christian or a Zionist Jew?

That's an unfair comparison. Honest people report bogus information all the time, and its more likely to happen if they're sympathies lie more with one side than the other. The CBN reporter may be overenthusiastic, or he's getting info from troops who aren't qualified to make the determination if they are chemicals. Hell, I'm a former artillery officer, and I couldn't tell you just from looking at a soviet round if its chemical or not.

So taking this with a grain of salt doesn't mean that you find Saddam more credible than the reporter. It's simply a recognition that the reporter may have jumped to an unwarranted conclusion.
