That's a really interesting bit of history that I hadn't yet read about in the context of in trying to understand the radical differences in cultural mindsets. Thanks for adding it into the mix.

I'm no expert on the matter, but in my French classes I had to read a lot of Romantics like Chateaubriand and we talked about the German movement, and of course in English classes I had to read a lot of the Keats & Shelley stuff. Then later, in my francophone classes I had to read some literature from Algeria, Morocco, et al, and there are some very definite differences in the approach to love, romance, and sex.
