An enviro bizarro sums up the war
The Hill ^ | 4/30/03 | The Shadow

“Environmental activist” Robert F. Kennedy Jr., on Aaron Brown’s CNN show last week laid the blame for the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11 and the Gulf War on … Ronald Reagan and his budget director David Stockman.

Kennedy said that oil companies and auto manufacturers conspired with Reagan in his first term to lower fuel efficiency standards; Reagan told Stockman to do it, and he did, said RFK Jr.

Then, Kennedy said: “If we had left those [standards] in place, we would not have imported one drop of Gulf oil after 1986. We would not have had a Gulf War. Think of the possibilities. Think of the World Trade Center still standing!”

In response to this startling charge, Brown posed a really tough (and nasal) question. He asked, no kidding: “Are you encouraged by the way people see environmental issues, even if they’re not quite ready to act on them, or are you discouraged these days.”

Gosh, surprise, he said he was discouraged.

Gosh, shouldn't CNN give Brown a raise for this masterful interview technique. He will elicit just the information that the public should know about Kennedy's claim.

I pray for the day when we can think of politics without hearing the names Clinton and Kennedy.

Why isn't our government going full speed ahead with the "oil from anything" proven technology. It would put an end to all the silly talk about oil. If the Bush administration does not soon get behind promoting and investing in this technology, then like many critics, I too believe they are slaves to the oil companies. To me it is much more important then all the money and effort we spent to go to the moon. It’s this kind of bold domestic agenda, along with completely revamping the tax code, that would continue the positive momentum going into 2004. Its amazing how politicians think the key to getting reelected is doing the bidding of special interests in return for large campaign donations. Special interest don't vote, the American people do.

Time to pull out my gentle reminder regarding Robert:

-In 1970, he was arrested in Hyannis, Mass., for marijuana possession; he spent 13 months on probation.

-In August 1983, he was cited for operating a boat that was inadequately equiped with safety devices and unregistered, off Cape Cod, Mass.

-In September 1983, he was charged in Rapid City, S.D., for possession of two-tenths of a gram of heroin. In February 1984, he pleaded guilty to the charge. In March 1984, he was convicted. He was given a suspended sentence.

-While married to first wife Emily, he made pregnant Mary Richardson, now his second wife.

-On May 9, 1992, he "ran over" Mary Wallace Anderson, a friend of his ex-wife, while she attempted to enter the vehicle he was driving. He is being sued for carelessness, recklessness and negligence.

What a guy! And remember...

"The Kennedys would lie even if the truth better served their purposes." -Gore Vidal
