I don't know. I wouldn't pass up the opportunity to trap on the deck of a carrier.

"a stupid...dangerous...publicity stunt"

Not true.

A carefully calculated plan which will have the world glued to their collective TV screens and help insure GWB's re-election.

Perhaps this will make Kerrey, Sharpton , Pelosi, Daschel, Edwards, Lieberman, and democRats yet unborn take a ride on the space shuttle. Say, to Mars?

Bare up MC, and stay tuned.

No - This a beautifully subtle show of trust and respect for our military.

I respectfully disagree. Our CIC had several options for this important war-ending speech. The Oval Office, The Rose Garden, Baghdad, CENTCOM, and others. By definition, he would receive the same national and international publicity.

I think the choice of an aircraft carrier sends the dual message of thanking the troops for their courage while reminding other dictators that America remains ready to defend its national security interests anywhere, anytime. This hardly seems stupid.

It may be a bit dangerous, but I'd do it in a nanosecond if given the chance. Wouldn't you?

Navy takes VIP's and news media on ride alongs. No big thang. They even let them do a bit of stick work when they're flying level.

Bush used to do duty scrambling his Texas Guard F-102 alone with his missiles when the Air Force detected UFO's back in the Cold War days, but he won't be at the controls when the plane comes in for a landing on the carrier. He flying skills may be rusty, but his judgment isn't.

They'll all be fine, and he'll have a grand time. Haven't been a lot of laughs in this Presidency since 9/11. I could use some joie de vivre myself, but I won't be buying it from the French.

He's not going to land the plane. He's just going to fly it. Relax.

Nah, just Dubya's way of letting our military know that they're no longer loathed at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
And the fact that this President is going out to meet them at sea, instead of waiting for the carrier to moor, is a gesture of respect and admiration for those on board.

The Prez isn't a coward and he continues to prove it. He took the vaccination everyone was so afraid of because it was necessary for the troops to take it (Klinton enforced drugs on the troops that he would want to be in the same room with). Now, the Prez is doing what our Navy pilots do as a normal day-to-day thing. Risky - a little; a sign of class - YOU BETCHA

I couldn't have said it better...His security people have got to sound like Tommy Lasorda during one of his "This bleeping job ain't that bleeping easy!" tirades.

Alexander knew the Iliad by heart. He loved Homer, and always slept with a copy of the Iliad under his pillow. His first teacher was Leonidas, a relative of Olympias. Leonidas instilled in Alexander his ascetic nature for which he became famous during his future campaigns; he lived simply, in a Spartan way, eating and sleeping together with his troops.

Boy aren't you mostly correct..... Makes the democrats mad as hornets and doesn't hurt his standing with the public one bit.... great to recognize the men/women that have been in harms way and doing a great job.

Why don't you fly your state flag? Aren't you proud?

Give me a break, it's not "stupid" nor is it a "publicity stunt."

This president has more courage and integrity than any recent occupant of the White House.

I remember when he threw out the first pitch at the World Series in NYC. That was leadership in action.

This is no stunt. It's a tribute to the men and women who serve in the armed services.

Of course, the DNC-plants will spin it as a "publicity stunt," so I suppose we should prepare for that line.

Thanks for giving us the heads up on the DNC's talking points.

part of leadership is sharing risk. Stupid and dangerous would be for him to campaign in Gay Bay.

A publicity stunt.???
Lighten up a bit will ya. When was the last time you saw George W Bush involve himself in a "Publicity Stunt".

If I was one of those lucky enough to watch my Commander in Chief land on a carrier deck. Right in front of me, I'd be so damn'd proud, and thrilled I bust a few buttons.

And have a good story for the grandkids.

It's risky for the President to do this, but he deserves a little hoopla now. Personally, I have every confidence in our military pilots and trust that they will land him safely.
