Classical Greece and Classical Hollywood In our increasingly libertine society and culture, returning to first principles—restoring the virtues of moral elevation and self-restraint—is a major challenge of civic education in which, yes, the great movies of the past have an important role to play.

Modern Art and the Death of a Culture Dr. Rookmaaker was the Professor of the History of Art at the Free University of Amsterdam. This book is his very interesting analysis of art and how it reflects the culture. Rookmaaker was of the opinion that artists were like canaries in a mine. They were (are) the early warning system. They show clearly where a society is headed. They are not (as many cultural conservatives falsely believe) the cause of societies problems, rather they are the earliest indicators of those problems. This book (first published in 1970) is more timely than ever. It (and Dr. Rookmaaker) were a huge influence on Dr. Francis Schaeffer (The entire "line of despair" idea in "The God Who is There" comes from Rookmaaker).

Thanks to some good people fighting evil and corruption.

Where is the ACLU of this outrageous violaion of the First Amendment? (LONG SILENCE)

Answer: The ACLU only defends "free speech" that seeks to destroy this country and destroy the freedoms of its Constitution.

We believe that by engaging in the conduct above, the authors and/or other persons responsible for the www.boycott-hollywood.us website may potentially be liable, both criminally and civilly, for a variety of offenses.

It sounds to me like the Hollywood crowd is engaging in harrassment. They're happy as long as idiotic fans are buying their crap and telling them how wonderful they are, but they fall to pieces as soon as they're made accountable for their stupid and irresponsible actions.

This website was probably shut down because the provider didn't want to have to fight a lawsuit. It's the endless checkbook theory. The Hollywood crowd can spend you to death in court whether the lawsuit has any merit or not. Most people can't finance the hundreds of thousands, and possibly millions, of dollars defending themselves in court.

These Hollyweird celebrity degenerates may be able to screw around with an internet website that is afraid of getting sued, but until they show up at my house and force me to buy their videos at gunpoint, I won't buy their stinking garbage that is being paraded as art. Society would be better without their skiffy "art". < /rant off >

Well, I tried forwarding this story to Drudge but the e-mail kept coming back to me as undeliverable. I was successful in forwarding it to Rush. Hopefully he will think it's worthy to bring up.

Help me out here.

In what manner has the federal government attempted to shut down this website.....which would make their claim re: 1st Amendment rights infringement legitimate.

This is pet peeve of mine re: those who holler about the 1st Amendment...when clearly inappropriate.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Once again, hollywood shows it's selfishness. It's always about THEIR freedom of speech. Us lowly peasant need to just shut up and know out place.

I wonder how many of these lowlifes have even READ the First Amendment.

Everytime I read a thread about this site being shut down I try to access it and it loads just fine. Is this some kind of PR job?

Subject: Pitiful Threats by pitiful people

It seems that -- any negative comments -- from any website operator -- about any "actor" -- is to be considered as libelous?

Well, actions, such as these by this agency and their law firm, ** I ** consider as a threat to the freedoms of our country as given by the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America, and therefore I would charge that the agency and the law firm appear to me to border on "Terroristic Threatening" and violate the "Civil Rights" of a citizen to express personal opinions on a "public figure"..

What do these "clients" really fear? That the people of the United States will see them for what they really are?

"Everytime I read a thread about this site being shut down I try to access it and it loads just fine. Is this some kind of PR job?"

It is shut down to me here in Arkansas. This is due to the different areas/ISP/etc updating the DNS servers at different rates.

It will probably be dead to you by tomorrow.

Hmmm - Interesting - The web site IS back up now from here!

http://www.boycott-hollywood.us/

Maybe they realized the ILLEGALITY of shutting this down??

That is an excellent point. One that can also be made about school prayer. The Constitution doesn't say anything about local school districts. It only makes reference to Congress being prohibited from establishing a religion.

*Is* this a violation of the first amendment? While the behavior of WMA has been despicable, I don't see that the federal government has passed a law inhibiting speech. When we have the moral high ground we should pound Truth and Justice, rather than squandering our point with idiotic pseudolegal blather.

The democtrats do enough of that for us all.

Sorry, but you are dead wrong.

This is ABSOLUTELY a violation of Free Speech and a violation of the First Amendment rights of those who protest the Hollywood Left.

I'm wondering if discretion needs to be applied when supplying contact information on the site. Is it truly necessary to place e-mail information on the site? Why not instead offer a snail mail address for contact information. I agree with the spirit of the boycott hollywood site, but she does need to use her head regarding the information she posts.

Agreed. While the Federal Government is not directly involved at the moment, the complaining party is threatening to use the judicial system and, by inference, the weight and power of the US to squash the target site. If we had a loser-pays system, it might just be a different story; the web site might win not only the suit but a healthy counter-claim as well.

Alas, that is not the case and one can only hope that organizations like the ACLU would step in to defend the little guy. Not likely but there must be right-thinking organizations that would. Perhaps our own Jim Rob might have some private advice to pass along.
