I've had it.

Posted on 05/20/2003 8:43:51 AM PDT by BeerSwillr

I've had it with illegal aliens, illegal immigration, and the complicit attitude of US immigration policy!

My 16 year old has been looking for a summer job for the last 3 months, what he's found has been surprising. Not only are there no summer jobs available, there are no jobs available, period, for someone with no experience.

So you say he's not looking hard enough? That the jobs are there, you just have to find them. HA!

All the entry level, low skill jobs that would normally be taken by teenagers and young adults during the summer are being taken by illegal immigrants, at least here in Texas. The few places that don't hire illegals have to contend with 10 or more applicants for each open position.

So who is this hurting you ask? Just a few teenagers who will be back in school in a couple of months? Just a few teenagers that will contribute little to the overall economic picture? WRONG!

You know the answer. It's hurting everyone. Teenagers would spend almost every penny they earned, contributing immensely to the overall economic health of the US. They would be in the malls, movie theaters, and restaurants spending their hard earned pay, leaving their parents free to spend their money on something else.

The illegal aliens? They used to maintain a low profile. Now, they don't bother. They can be seen everywhere; mowing lawns, planting trees, roofing & framing houses, working at the lube shack, pouring concrete, gathering at several official and unofficial day worker hang-outs in the mornings (when it would be extremely easy for immigration to swoop in and arrest them.)

Where you don't and won't see them is out spending their money (except for at Wal-Mart.) You don't see them at Bennigans, Chilis, Tony Romas, Cinemark, the mall, car dealerships, etc.

Know why?

They don't have any money to spend on the US economy because they're sending everything except a small subsistence back to Mexico.

The illegals are not here to help us or the US economy. Anyone that says they are here to take jobs that US citizens don't want is being disingenuous.

They're siphoning off millions of dollars a year from the economy. Not only by taking jobs, but a host of other ways; education benefits, medical assistance, government assistance, thievery, robbery, drug dealing, you name it, they're involved in it.

And what is the Department of Homeland Security™ doing about this? They're putting on a dog and pony show.

They're outlining major new methods of monitoring ports of entry, airports, etc. with biometrics, fingerprinting, radar, facial recognition technology, and who knows what else, while at the same time doing nothing to monitor thousands of miles of open space where, apparently, it is relatively easy to cross into the US.

It seems to me that simple reconnaissance flights over that vast unmonitored territory would be able to identify these border violations and put a stop to, or at least slow, this illegal invasion of our country.

The Department of Homeland Security™ is largely ignoring the issue. Illegal entry into the US continues unabated across our borders.

It makes me sick.

What can we do about it? Other than mew weakly and post articles like this on the large wasteland that is the internet?

Contact your elected officials and let them know what you're thinking. Let them know you will hold them accountable. It's all in our hands.

I understand your frustration and I don't disagree with what you say, however in the business's defense I'd have to say that the Mexican's (illegal aliens) usually only get the jobs that Americans don't want.

Actually, it's a vicious cycle. The reason the Americans don't want the jobs is that now those jobs are considered to be the domain of Hispanics. It is not the nature of the work itself that makes them undesirable, it is who you have to work with that does.

"My beef is with people who fear for their jobs and their income."

Absolutely right! How dare people put their livlihood, and the financial security of their families above the needs of those poor, wretched souls who illegally break into our nation, and those who illegally employ them, in the name of higher profit margins. How dare people think of themselves and the economic stability of their nation, much less national security, when there are outsiders who need a free college education! For shame! < /sarcasm >

What's all this claptrap about these kids doing jobs American kids don't want to do!

I'm in the Chicago suburbs right now on vacation. Not only the fast food chains, but clerks and the like in Walgreens, department stores, private bakeries, supermarkets, craft shops, gift shops, golf driving ranges, on and on, are disproportionally foreign-born.

We have to get over the fixed idea that immigrants only do yard work, hole-post digging and motel housekeeping. They have flooded the entry-level job market in most categories.

Although affable enough, many can't speak English except for rudimentary phrases, answer questions or make correct change. Customer service is now at a long-time low, and nobody seems to care.

Meantime, American-born kids can't get these jobs as the few openings are quickly filled and kept by foreigners who have no interest in going to college or movin' on up, just spending their money or sending it abroad to their families.

As Rush puts it, minimum-wage jobs for younger folks are "training" for the big, wide, adult business world out there.

Guess this training is now just for immigrants and illegals.

I agree with your statements. I have written to my senators (Texas) and can't even get a reply. How do we get the attention of Washington DC? I don't know.

Do you mean programs exclusively helping immigrants get funding for business development? This is one for refugees and entrants.

Grant

EXAMPLES OF FUNDED PROJECTS: In fiscal year 2003, ORR provided funds for projects to: (1) promote community and family stability; (2) provide vocational training, job search, and social services to help refugees obtain employment; (3) provide placement of refugees in preferred communities; (4) meet special needs of unanticipated arrivals; (5) meet the needs of refugees arriving in the US with special conditions such as positive HIV, trauma, physical and mental disabilities, and other health related problems; (6) provide microenterprise development services to refugees; (7) provide matching funds for individual development accounts (IDA); (8) provide support for ethnic community self-help organizations; and (9) funds to support orientation to the community

I agree with this statement. I run an online media company. Hispanics is the second most sought after demographic because of their frivoulous spending habits. Example: ever see a Hispanic man without a cell phone?

I do not think we should halt imigration. We should conduct a thorough market research campaign on which groups enter from what country and then contribute to the economy. Would be easy enough to measure. The groups which contribute the most are allowed to come in the most. The groups that contribute the least, should be allowed in the least.

Moehoward: "This year over half of her class are children of illegals."
PRND21: "Ironic, she can thank them for her job."

Wrong. She volunteers her time, for free.

The Illegals use this small community church's Sunday school class as "daycare". They drop off their kids then disappear, often returning well after services have long ended.

All brown people aren't illegal. You're talking about Americans with the same rights as you. Don't like it? Tough. Move to Sweden.

Read #255. And take your race baiting somewhere else......Here, I'll give you a quote from my post.

Areas of once nice homes and neighborhoods now filled with 20 or 30 people to a house, involved in every criminal act known to man? So bad that every good neighbor, regardless of race has fled.

Ever seen the organized gangs made up of illegal aliens that prey upon the innocent Hispanics, women and children, or anyone else that crosses their path? Brutal people that don't give a damn about you. People that aren't afraid of your laws or your jails....

No. That wasn't the post I responded to, nice DU tactic, though..

You claim to know legal status by sight. That makes you magic or racist, take your pick.

How is it a switch? You couldn't be more clear in your statement that your beef is with people who fear for their jobs and their income. You somehow see no difference between Hitler and those who are fighting mad about their jobs being stolen by those who illegally break into our nation, and those who illegally employ them. That is the issue at hand on this thread.

By the way, illegal scumbag aliens aren't just taking the car wash and housekeeping jobs from unskilled Americans. They're taking skilled jobs as well, like the 15 or so illegals hired illegally by a telecom cabling company I used to work for in suburban DC. We Americans and the couple of legal Canadians we had on the crew were making $15-25 an hour for our skills, while our illegal scumbag colleagues were hired on 1099s, and paid $8-10 an hour, after producing false paperwork to get their jobs. They drove their cars and trucks with no insurance. They moved their families into company housing. Worst of all, they were so sure the INS wouldn't do a damn thing about it, they openly bragged about how they were illegal and weren't paying any freakin' taxes! When I and a few others were laid off, later word had it we were replaced by temporary labor and yet more illegals.

You may have a beef with hard working Americans and legal immigrants who are seeing red over this invasion, but I have a major stinkin' beef with mamby-pamby CommieLib do-gooders who see the issue through rose-colored glasses. When and if you lose your job to some damn diseased illegal scumbag alien, maybe you'll be a little more frosted, and understand why some of us "fear for our jobs and our income". Get your head out of the sand, wonk boy.
