I've had it.

Posted on 05/20/2003 8:43:51 AM PDT by BeerSwillr

I've had it with illegal aliens, illegal immigration, and the complicit attitude of US immigration policy!

My 16 year old has been looking for a summer job for the last 3 months, what he's found has been surprising. Not only are there no summer jobs available, there are no jobs available, period, for someone with no experience.

So you say he's not looking hard enough? That the jobs are there, you just have to find them. HA!

All the entry level, low skill jobs that would normally be taken by teenagers and young adults during the summer are being taken by illegal immigrants, at least here in Texas. The few places that don't hire illegals have to contend with 10 or more applicants for each open position.

So who is this hurting you ask? Just a few teenagers who will be back in school in a couple of months? Just a few teenagers that will contribute little to the overall economic picture? WRONG!

You know the answer. It's hurting everyone. Teenagers would spend almost every penny they earned, contributing immensely to the overall economic health of the US. They would be in the malls, movie theaters, and restaurants spending their hard earned pay, leaving their parents free to spend their money on something else.

The illegal aliens? They used to maintain a low profile. Now, they don't bother. They can be seen everywhere; mowing lawns, planting trees, roofing & framing houses, working at the lube shack, pouring concrete, gathering at several official and unofficial day worker hang-outs in the mornings (when it would be extremely easy for immigration to swoop in and arrest them.)

Where you don't and won't see them is out spending their money (except for at Wal-Mart.) You don't see them at Bennigans, Chilis, Tony Romas, Cinemark, the mall, car dealerships, etc.

Know why?

They don't have any money to spend on the US economy because they're sending everything except a small subsistence back to Mexico.

The illegals are not here to help us or the US economy. Anyone that says they are here to take jobs that US citizens don't want is being disingenuous.

They're siphoning off millions of dollars a year from the economy. Not only by taking jobs, but a host of other ways; education benefits, medical assistance, government assistance, thievery, robbery, drug dealing, you name it, they're involved in it.

And what is the Department of Homeland Security™ doing about this? They're putting on a dog and pony show.

They're outlining major new methods of monitoring ports of entry, airports, etc. with biometrics, fingerprinting, radar, facial recognition technology, and who knows what else, while at the same time doing nothing to monitor thousands of miles of open space where, apparently, it is relatively easy to cross into the US.

It seems to me that simple reconnaissance flights over that vast unmonitored territory would be able to identify these border violations and put a stop to, or at least slow, this illegal invasion of our country.

The Department of Homeland Security™ is largely ignoring the issue. Illegal entry into the US continues unabated across our borders.

It makes me sick.

What can we do about it? Other than mew weakly and post articles like this on the large wasteland that is the internet?

Contact your elected officials and let them know what you're thinking. Let them know you will hold them accountable. It's all in our hands.

There are also non-profit corporations who are a drain on the economy through their tax-exempt status. A guidestar keyword search produces over 1700 entries. A search for immigrant and business produces 39 such agencies.

Here is one:

http://www.guidestar.org/controller/searchResults.gs?action_gsReport=1&npoId=280184

quote from the summary on above site:

"Acre Family Day Care trains low-income and immigrant women to run child care businesses in their homes, and provides the administrative, technical, and educational support to offer culturally-sensitive childcare to families in the community. "

Reform on the nature of "tax-exempt" businesses is way overdue, IMO. If there is going to be an income tax, then groups such as these, ANSWER, Sierra Club, etc. should also pay.

If you don't already have a bible nearby or access to one on the internet, you probably wouldn't care. When I get sideswiped like this, I usually find it's because people see my SN and their little demons start screaming.

And when did your focus switch from Hitler to Pharoh? I may have missed it, and don't want to falsely accuse you of switching contexts.

What would Jesus do about the illegals? Didn't he "get us into this mess"?

Well, again, you're quite wrong. I'm a Christian, just not a good enough, or a particularly knowledgeable one. I'm afraid my Bible study is limited to an Old Testament course in college. So, no...I'm not someone who's going to attack you for being a Christian, and I don't appreciate you implying I am. Now...if you'd be so kind by enlightening me, what did you mean when you said I need to read and heed the section of Matthew you referred to?

when I saw the title I was hoping for an opus.

That's right, but that's the beauty of FR. Sometimes, not often admittedly, you get something unexpected.

I asked you first because you brought Jesus into a immigration thread.
Answer or don't bring it up. I'm not trying to fight you, just curious what you think He would do or think about the situation.
Will the illegals inherit the Earth?

19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. 22 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. 23 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness! 24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. 25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? 26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? 27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? 28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: 29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? 31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? 32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. 33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. 34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

If you are worried about such things and angry at the government and it's policy and at your neighbors, whether you consider them proper and legal citizens or not, you are not believing this. I have 8 kids and have at times been without work, without insurance without much of anything but I kept trusting the Lord to see to my needs, and He always has. My fingers would cramp up trying to give you all of my testimony of how the Lord has taken care of me and my family.

People who are particularly mad at the gmt and illegal aliens think that they are provided for by the gmt, or even by their own hands given the chance to work for 25 bucks per hour. This is not the case. How could we ever love our neighbor as we love ourselves if we are in a dog eat dog competition for food and clothes with them?

Someone asked Jesus to settle an argument for them and He said "Man who made me a judge between you?". He wouldn't soil his hands with such things, He came here to save sinners. I suspect that Me might cry at being asked to deal with such a question because of the utter faithlessness of the complaint.

I have had similar experiences with my daughter; but, because I live in Washington State, the problem is also the labor laws that the Dems have passed to protect "the children".

When my daughter graduated from HS, she was 17. She looked for jobs, she filled out applications at all the usual teenage job places. Nothing. I finally asked the manager at a Starbucks if they hired 17 year olds and she told me that she might hire 1, 16-17 year old, but that the paperwork and rules on hours worked were really prohibitive so they didn't like to take on more than one employee that young.

She finally got a job as a busgirl at a local retirement community, via a friend's recommendation. But it took her forever to try and find work and she was trying to save for college. This summer was worse, and she tells me that her friends at college (from all over the U.S.) were having a very hard time finding work.

I don't know if this is part of the illegal problem that you are experiencing; but it was very bad this year everyplace.

Personally, I am sick to death of the border problems, but the politicians of both parties seem unwilling to do anything about it.

Yep, it's the same here in Texas. Not only are there wacky rules on hours worked, but some insurance coverage mandates people hired be 18 or older. It's so friggen stupid it makes my blood boil.

The only thing that's kept me on an even keel this summer is the knowing that my brother in law, Saint that he is, has volunteered to take my son on next summer and introduce him to the plumbing trade.

If it weren't for this I think I'd go nuts knowing that he would fritter away another summer.

Thank you for the education...yes, that is how we should live...ideally. However, even though I have no family and kids (at this pont), I am not willing to forego food, clothing, shelter, and my future in the name of allowing millions of outsiders to illegally break into the nation to take our jobs, or take our money through government programs. I guess that means I'm falling short of what God wants from me. The Founding Fathers did, too. Those who fought in World Wars 1, 2 and now 3 have fallen short as well. They had to answer for their sins, and I will, too.

But in the meantime, that doesn't mean I will sit idly by while our nation is invaded from without, and corrodes from within. Sorry bro, but I can't just smile and whistle "Don't Worry, Be Happy", while the country I served for 11 years is stolen out from under me. So if that makes me a sinner, I'm not alone.

Good point. I suspect Jesus would keep His eye on the things of eternal consequence, and not concern Himself with such earthly squabbles.

(I also wonder how He allegedly "got us into this mess.")
