Girl, 6, attacked in mall

A frenzied sex attack on a six-year-old girl in the middle of a Scarborough shopping mall has horrified onlookers and appalled the head of the police sex crimes unit. "This is the most disgusting, horrific thing I've heard of," Staff-Insp. Bruce Smollet said.

"For someone to do that in front of so many people is just beyond belief."

The little girl was at Cedarbrae Mall at Markham Rd. and Lawrence Ave. around 8:30 p.m. Thursday when she strayed away from her parents, police said.

She was only a few aisles away from them when she was grabbed from behind by a man.

In plain view of several onlookers, he tore at her clothes and sexually assaulted her.

Store staff, customers and the girl's panicked parents all came to her rescue and held a suspect until police arrived.

"We want to find out if there are any other victims of similar incidents out there, though I doubt it's to the same extent," Smollet said.

The youngster was taken to the Hospital for Sick Children, treated and then released.

Christopher Cameron Goodwin, 21, has been charged with choking, sex assault and sex interference. He's being held in custody until a bail appearance on June 11.

I just paged through the posts to this. Amazing the number of FReepers who would rather think about a little bit of jail time for themselves rather than doing what was right. Heck, even in the people's repuklic of Canada you can probably carry a knife that would easily take care of this scumbag. There is nothing more precious to God than His little ones and I would gladly tie the mill stone of a K-Bar to the gut of this creep.

Case in point:
A bunch of years ago at Westwood Mall in Houston.....
A black man (no racism intended) followed a woman across the parking lot.
When she got her door open he pushed her down in the seat, raped her then cut her throat.
As she bled to death he raced across the parking lot to his car to escape.
Several people saw it, but one man had the means to do something about it.
He ran to his car, got his .357 Mag, ran back to the exit of the parking lot and fired four rounds into the car of the fleeing rapist/murderer.
The guy creamed a telephone post, but he was dead before he hit it.
The police came, threw the hero to the ground, confiscated his weapon, handcuffed him and took him to jail.
The next morning the liberal Houston Chronicle was full of articles about "vigilante justice".
What they didn't count on, though, was the groundswell of support for the hero.
The DA wanted capital murder charges.
The Grand Jury no-billed it.

He was fortunate. It is very plain in most, if not all states, that deadly force can be used to only protect life and limb. Never-the-less my hat is off to this guy. I would hope more would do the same. If we had more swift swords of justice flying around maybe the scum bags would think twice before acting.

This is one of the many reasons I carry a gun when I go to the big urban malls......there are all kinds of people at these places and you never know what you are going to encounter - in the parking lot or in the mall......

Let me add in ref to your #64 - I would hope the family of this lady have adopted the hero. I sure would. He would ahve the place of honor at family events and his kids would no longer worry about college funding.

This is what we have to look forward to regularly as we slip more and more into accepting sexual deviancy. That poor child and her parents. I really don't blame them, even the most responsible of parents have had their children wander just a few feet away for a moment. Obviously this is the reason that you have to remain vigilant as to their whereabouts--you may not even have the moment to realize they are gone and figure their whereabouts before a pervert attacks them. I have no sympathy for a pervert like this--21? He has a long life ahead of him, so I say we stop that life now before liberal laws let him out to do more damage and likely destruction.

I'm with you, someone like this should be immediately executed--no ifs, ands, or buts! Hell, not even a trial--there were plenty of witnesses who saw what this scumbag did, what possible need does he have for a trial that might let him out smarter to wreak this havoc in private next time?

I hear you. In situations like this, I tend to act in a manner that is morally correct, without thinking of the atavistic legal consequences. Got away with that a few times, although as a preemptive measure against legal/civil repercussions that might result from violent actions against the lawless, I purposefully have chosen to live in an area of the country where what is legal and what is moral are more or less in alignment.

No need for a weapon against this scumbag, though -- an elbow or knee smash to the temple would be quite effective, and rather more satisfying.

I don't blame you in a way. Having children has brought me grey hair and quicker aging. Not because of how they behave(they have their times, but nothing a grown up can't handle;-), but because of the worries of dangers out there. I have a 5 yr old daughter so this is especially worrisome to me.
My son is 3 and with a learning disability which concerns me down the road with the perverts out there who like to look for teen boys with some disadvantage(whether it be poverty, learning disability, abuse) so they can gain their trust to use them.
There are some sickos out there to be sure!
