10 Million Basijis Prepared to Defend Iran: Says Islamic Revolution Guard Corps Commander
TEHRAN TIMES POLITICAL DESK June 26, 2003
TEHRAN The Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC), Brigadier General Rahim Safavi, said here on Wednesday that 10 million Basijis (volunteer forces) stand ready to protect Iran's security. Safavi, addressing a meeting of IRGC engineers, pledged that Basijis would struggle to thwart any threats against Iran's security "from inside and outside."
He also stressed that Iran would never welcome war and that the policy of Iran has always been the strategy of detente.
"Today's complicated and rapid regional and international developments and the movements of enemy elements inside Iran have gradually increased the weight of the responsibility of the guardians of the revolution in safeguarding the national and religious dignity of Islamic Iran," Safavi said. "It is necessary that
[the guardians of the revolution] adopt their positions according to the dictates of the time."
Elsewhere in his remarks, the IRGC commander said that Revolutionary Guards should develop their abilities and expertise in various fields so as to better protect the ideals of the founder of the Islamic Revolution, the late Imam Khomeini, in order to meet the needs of the day.

It appears the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC), Brigadier General Rahim Safavi is related to Baghdad Bob.

Brigades of suicide troops that swarmed the Iraqi lines en masse during the Eighties and essentially won the war for Iran (until the Iraqis used chem weapons).

He also stressed that Iran would never welcome war and that the policy of Iran has always been the strategy of detente. Don't you just love that shipload of detente rifles, bombs and grenades the Iranis sent to the Hamas goons? My my, these bass fishermen are series! This could be hugh news!

The populace hates the current leadership, but they'd fight to the death to defend it. LOL More 'stupid Ayatollah' tricks...
To: DoctorZIn
I also find it interesting that all the middle east is supposed to hate us for freeing up Iraq, but now note with amusement that the Iranians are practically begging us to do the same thing in their nation. Who's next?

To prepare for confrontation with the United States, they will be undergoing intense training in the field of kissing one's ass goodbye.
