Oh, great !! The DMN is just GIDDY over this, aren't they? They are even more LIBERAL than I thought. I bet that CEO is gay or has gay buddies, too.

I guess they just didn't get the memo ! Same sex unions are NOT recognized in the state of Texas !!

barf alert!:

Oh, Gee Bruce ! I just can't
WAIT to see our picture in the
Dallas Morning News !!

This is positively putrid-- an utter abomination. Gee, let's open the paper and see pictures of gay men/lesbians pretending to be a married couple. AWK!
I'd like to have the satisfaction of discontinuing my subscription to the DMN, but I don't take the rag.

This is weird, IMO.

I know there have been times in the past when homosexuality has been generally accepted, ancient Greece, I guess is the instance I'm thinking of.

But I have a question. Do you think that even in ancient Greece, homosexual *marriage* was accepted and a part of everday life?

And another thing: I just bet the Houston Chronicle isn't going to want to be left behind by the DMN. That's fine. That's a subscription that I can and will drop.

I found it a bit humorous that GLAAD and NLGJA was so THRILLED about the NY Slimes opening the door wide to this trend, especially given Slimes credibility of late!:

"I'm so happy and so glad to hear this," says Monica Taher, people of color media director for GLAAD.

She worked last year on the group's project to get additional papers to publish same-sex union announcements.

The New York Times' decision last August to begin publishing same-sex union announcements was a watershed, she says.

Since then, many more papers have begun publishing such announcements, she says.

At some papers, executives had argued that printing same-sex announcements was tantamount to taking a political stand, but GLAAD representatives responded that not running them was also taking a political stand, she says.

Pamela Strother, executive director of the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association, also praised The Morning News' new policy.

"It's fantastic that The Dallas Morning News has moved forward on this," she says.

"It shows that a newspaper in a region that might be seen as conservative is willing to step out on this."

NLGJA leaders have also been meeting with newspaper executives, including The New York Times' publisher, says Robert Dodge, last year's president and a writer in The Dallas Morning News' Washington bureau.

The NY Times is basically a homosexual paper, so it wasn't too surprising when they changed their policy. What I wonder is what it will do to revenue streams if they keep it up. Announcing your daughter's marriage is a joyous and sacred occasion for most people. Will the parents of the bride want to pay good money to make these announcements if the adjoining column announces the marriage of Bruce and Bruce complete with a picture like the one above?

Would you want your children's weddings to be announced via posters on the local whorehouse?

Does anybody else think that if these people keep imposing their disgusting behavior on decent people that we will start seeing a rise in "hate crimes?" I think the majority of people in this country have a live and let live philosophy, but at the point where fag rights start restricting our rights, especially when the exercise of their so-called rights goes against the laws of God and nature, it may just be the last straw for some. I mean, no respectable person wants to have to explain to their 5 year olds why those two men are slobbering all over each other.

Not likely, I ain't gonna do it. And also, considering that the 2 "gays" aren't having a legit marriage anyway, unless they go to Vermont or Hawaii.

I think newpapers are already fighting circulation and cost problems, it's easy to imagine this trend not helping much.

. "We want people to know, 'Hey, we're just like you. We've got a house, we've got a job, we have pets, we pay bills.' "

No, you're not just like "us". My husband is a man and I am a woman. Major difference.

Vanessa Benavides and Amy Davis, two Dallas attorneys who had a black-tie commitment ceremony in Dallas on June 14, are also buying an announcement. The couple also got married in Canada on June 23, and Ms. Davis took the name Benavides.

Weird - feminists used to say they hated the wife taking her husband's name (or even marrying a man) since it was submitting to evil patriarchy. Which one is representing the evil man? Or maybe both were in tuxedos?

The paper's criteria for publishing an announcement are that the ceremony takes place in public, and that somebody officiates.

Is a bathhouse public, and one of the anonymous gang can officiate?

They MADE You be gay? Why that's terrible. Really.

but at the point where fag rights start restricting our rights,

Define SPECIFICALLY which rights you have had restricted. (You can't)

especially when the exercise of their so-called rights goes against the laws of God and nature

I'm glad your Deity has deigned to post at Free Republic. I have so many questions.
Just because your religion doesn't approve doesn't give you the right to murder or imprison gays.

Dear Ms. McKenzie,

These announcements are a logical step only if the DMN wants to lose market penetration of readers at an faster pace than it is now.

First of all, same-sex unions are not legal in Texas, so why recognize them? Why not have announcements for a woman marrying 3 men, a man marrying a barnyard animal, or a man marrying a little boy? Don't laugh -- all 3 situations have groups of supporters in this country.

10 years ago, the idea of the DMN recognizing gay marriages would have been unthinkable. Now the DMN is clamoring to be just like the New York Times -- especially in their biased reporting of the news. The DMN should be more careful of who it tries to emulate. You've basically chosen the Eddie Haskell of reporting as your role model.

Second, while the DMN has always been positively giddy about "gay rights" -- do a Nexis search on Cathedral of Hope for the DMN if you don't believe me -- its readers are not so inclined. Many readers want to see the facts reported and don't care to have the DMN continue to couch editorials under the guise of news. That's why readership isn't growing at the same rate as the population.

Third, thank heavens for the internet and talk radio. Now we're no longer limited to just the news that the DMN decides to report.

Best regards,

-Michael McCullough

Actually, the Houston chronicle published photos and articles re homosexual couples some years back. In the Sunday section that has real heterosexual marriages/wedding announcements. I immediately cancelled my subscription, as did many others and the Chronicle immediately stopped. But now they are the ONLY newspaper in town. May not be as easily influenced.

I said nothing about having a right to murder or imprison them. But when they put their shameless and disgusting behavior on display in front of MY kids, they have infringed on my rights to raise my children free from exposure to their perversion. When it gets to the point where I can't go out in public without having to look at men kissing other men or women pawing other women, or when I can't turn on the television or go to the movies without having to see some faggot lust scene, then they are infringing on my pursuit of happiness. I was simply pointing out that some people may become outraged to the point of lashing out.

One doesn't have to be a Christian to recognize perversion. There is right and wrong and trying to pretend there isn't doesn't change it. Trying to make a wrong right by making a behavior widely accepted doesn't make it any less wrong either. Their behavior offends me, and it offends anybody who knows the difference between right and wrong. Considering the liberals' feigned objections to anybody having to be offended, they sure do shove this most offensive of behaviors on everybody else. As human beings, they should be treated the same as anybody else, but when they put themselves out there as queers first and human beings second then they shouldn't be surprised when people react negatively.

Start a Boycott of the paper, get out in front of it with signs and cost them money. Bring the spot light on them and make them loose subscriptions. Boycotting works and if we don't start the battle on the local fronts then this will just wash over the entire country before we know it and it will be legal.

And that shows Senator Feingold to not be a decent person, in my opinion. Some things just shouldn't NEED to be justified, so obvious are they to the majority of people. I certainly wouldn't take my grandson to Disney World at a time when a bunch of faggots were parading around with their perversion proudly on display for all to see. In fact, given Disney's promotion of their agenda, I'm not even sure I would take my grandson to Disney World at all at this point, although I took my daughter several times when she was little.

Remember the good old days when The Dallas Morning News was conservative? Maybe I'm dating myself. Do I understand this to say that heterosexual couples must pay for engagement/wedding announcements, but gay couples get free space? If so, I see a lawsuit on the horizon.

I remember that too. The Times Herald was the LIB paper, the DMN was Conservative. I guess when the TH folded, the DMN sucked up the LIBS from the TH.

Do I understand this to say that heterosexual couples must pay for engagement/wedding announcements, but gay couples get free space?

At first, when I read it, I thought that ALL 2 inch engagement/wedding announcements were free. It's really a bit vague now that I read it again. Could go either way, kinda like The Dallas Morning News, lol !:

The paper's criteria for publishing an announcement are that the ceremony takes place in public, and that somebody officiates.

A two-inch announcement is free, while photos or longer announcements are charged according to size.

If conservatives across the country really want to stop this (which I believe they do) then we must stand together in some form other that just are vote. We would have to march on Washington with much more that the Million Man March (which never got to a million). It will take a lot of organization and money to pull the people together to march on Washington that would put a fear in the corrupt government that we have end place right now.

Oh good grief, that's even worse than the one in the DMN. Besides, I don't ever see heterosexual engagement/marriage photos showing the couple ready to do a lip lock -- it's generally considered tasteless to put on a display for public consumption. So why do gays feel such a deep rooted need to advertise the physical side of their relationship?
