It will be a little sadder when we pass the vittles in the fancy eatin' room tonight. RIP to Buddy "Uncle Jed" Ebsen. Fine actor and good man.

Conspiracy theorists take note! Lots of celeb deaths lately. Not... sure... what that... would mean.... Still.

They're old?

"A great talent, a long career, and a true conservative. What a shame that most will remember him for his role in the inane and viciously stereotypical Beverly Hillbillies. Southerners, particularly those from the Appalachians, are fair game for ridicule, it seems; not so other ethnic groups."

I saw the Beverly Hillbillies differently. They were honest, hardworking, had common sense, and if it came to hanging out with the characters in that show, I'd take Jed & company over the Berverlyites anyday. In spite of show being posed as a farce, the Hillbillies did have an underlying dignity about them.

C'mon Granny!
And ah, yes, the world will remember the trio of Buddy Hackett-Buddy Ebsen-and Buddy Hepburn for as long as memory lasts.

Huh? You don't get it. Being a native Californian, and watching the show as a kid, we were always laughing at the city slickers reaction to Uncle Jed on the show, he was the funny likeable guy, while the city slickers were portrayed as snobs.

Don't be so dang thin skinned. Uncle Jed wouldn't approve.

My boys, aged 4 and 7, have almost wore out the Davey Crockett DVD I bought them. They were very sad to hear that the man that they loved as Davey's sidekick, Georgie Russell, had died. I have to admit that Dad is very sad too. RIP Buddy.

The lame-brained conspiracy theorists are going to find some way to either blame George Bush or the Jews...it never fails.

I agree. Not to take a sitcom as moral philosophy, but the Clampetts to me were the people you liked. Sure, Jethro was a doofus (maybe the funniest in TV history), but the rest of the group had intelligence (again, within the narrow confines of a TV rural comedy.) I don't think the show's creators intended them to be viewed as "White Trash" at all. They were very likeable and always came out on top in the end.

When my job had me living in LA a few years back, it was fun to go down Beverly Drive, the backdrop for the opening of the show when they are in the truck. The area still looks the same. Also, the home that was used for exterior shots of the Clampett Estate is just up the street in Bel Air from the Reagan home. However, about 10-15 years ago the owners completely altered it, so now it bears no resemblance to the house on the show. They were tired of tourists standing at the gate and looking in and going through the litany of Clampett sayings.

I have heard he inhaled dry silver power and got pneumonia. Fault: the make up man.

What a strange site. The author sure likes sleezy gossip (and is obviously a lefty). He's also rather weak on structure and facts of the non-salacious kind. In fact, unless I missed it, he doesn't even mention Max Baer Jr's famous father.
