Next maybe, we could get the heck out of Germany? Move to Poland?

I don't have a link, but I know that what you request is already underway, and the Germans who once complained and bitched 24/7 about US activity at a local airfield are now crying in their brau about economic disaster--post-USA.

Does anyone know the German for "Go pound sand?"

"You dedicate all your talents, all your efforts. You're loyal to your employer, this case being the U.S. Navy, and what do you get in return? A kick in the you-know-what," said Ana Angelet of the Puerto Rican chapter of the American Federation of Government Employees.

Oh yes, all those liberal union types want to have their cake and eat it too. I'm sure the Wicked Witch of the West Wing and Al Sharpton, etal. will be raising hell about this one pretty soon.

And I screwed up. I was wrong. I was thinking of the former Senator from Hawaii, not the Senator from Oklahoma. I apologize and retract my words. But not my math. How did he come up with the $1.7B number?

I'll agree w/you here. Some examples:

The PRs in Philly would routinely complain about the low level of neighborhood policing, but somehow were always on the wrong end of some police brutality beef or harrassing police as they tried to work. (We can talk about jack-booted thugs and the WOD later. However, if you want to get rid of the drug dealers or gang bangers on the corner, you're gonna have to make some arrests.) They were also known for harrassing fire fighters who came into the area.

Another time I wrote a will for a PR woman. Her son came down w/her. I asked why they didn't go to a lawyer in the PR section of North Philly. He told me that the lawyers up there were all criminal lawyers; no one did civil work like wills or real estate. Hey, I guess you go where the market is...

Anecdotal yes, but that's my experience. I left Philly in the mid-90s. Maybe it's gotten better? Oh, wait, John Street is mayor... BWAHAHAHA

Inouye. Hawaii (D). I thought the old "Lefty" was dead or retired.

Note to self: Hire a fact-checker.

Puerto Rico was legally ceded to us by Spain following the cessation of the Spanish American War. Puerto Rico is now our responsibility.

Therefore, I propose that we declare war against Spain and attack without further adieu. I have no doubt that we will win and we can then demand that Spain take back Puerto Rico.

Problem solved!

They should talk to Jesse Jackson and the Mrs. (who so bravely went there to protest along side them) - the Jackson's are loaded - maybe out of the goodness of their hearts.

BUT NOT ONE DIME OF TAXPAYER DOLLARS! The closing of those practice runs to our Navy pilots cost us PLENTY already.

Please! We are being too harsh with our fellow American Hispanophones. When we liberated Puerto Rico from Spain, it was a remote Spanish military outpost. Perhaps, now that we've cleaned and painted the place up, we ought to just offer it back to Spain.

But seriously, Puerto Ricans, congratulations on a very successful protest.

Gehen lbssand

That's not really understandable.

"Geh' mal Sand hammern", would be a literal translation, but I've never heard that expression in German.

The old german standby for this situation is "leck mich mal", [K*ss my *ss]. That covers most bases.

"In response to the years of protest, former President Clinton agreed to stop Navy exercises there. Congress and President Bush ratified the deal and live-fire exercises were halted last May."

Amazing. Xlinton didn't even actually stop the exercises, even though he was enthusiastically motivated by his "loathing" of the military. Bush had to do it. I have been trying to find anything The Toon did in eight years for this country. Still nothing.
