I think it has to mean "only one wife"; other wise they could say "some wife" or "a wife of some sort" (gunaikos tinos?).

For the last three days, the media couldn't get enough of this story. Now there's this funny silence. I checked all the TV news networks at 5:00 PM Eastern and none of 'em seem to want to cover this new story at all.
