Wow. What a shame. What a great dancer he was. What an extraordinary dancer he was.

Thanks - I don't mean to help in sidetracking the thread, but I think it is unfair to categorize all ballet dancers as gay, especially ones as unquestionably awesome as Barysnikov. I recall it being part of the conversation that he was quite heterosexual. When he dances, he looks like a man.
Same is true for Gregory Hines. He was a great dancer and it is sad to see him stricken down by disease so young.

He was great in Running Scared. What an underrated comedy that is.

Leaving aside the fact that we are MOST jaded by any kind of media coverage, they did a HORRID job of even vamping that this morning.
Pathetic.

Just read up on Nureyev, he died in 1993, at age 55, after suffering with AIDS for 12 yrs. Agree, about not stereotyping.

He played "Bojangles" in the biography film of Bill Robinson. Duplicated Robinson's complicated "dancing up and down the stairs" routine. That was a great movie.

People are dying who never died before as my grandma used to say. That's really good, and sweet.

Was he in that movie with the gay russian dancer guy? Yes, Mikhail Baryshnikov. The film was White Nights. I don't know whether he's homosexual or not though. Maybe the KGB @ work again...the russian were really pissed, he defected in 1975? :/

Geez, I should have spelled it Mikal! I think we have proven on the thread that M.B. is unspellable.
But I loved White Nights also.... is one I would like to see again now.... been awhile.

As usual, Fox News has repeated this 50 times in less than a minute by three people. Pathetic.
Now they are reading his resume.
Shades of Laci Peterson, Kobe Bryant, OJ, etc. It never stops.
It's like a Chinese Water torture!
I had to switch over to CNN for relief (as much as I despise their biased liberal reporting).

I think he got his start very young (5 years old) doing tap dancing in theaters with brother and dad. Sort of vaudeville. Called Hines, Hines and Dad.

Young black men would do well to learn to show the class he always did.
