The object of an election is to win a majority of the votes. This usually involves winning the hearts and minds of the electorate.

The BIG story is the blow to the Democrat party monopoly on Sacramento. The opportunity to elect a conservative was missed by Bill Simon last november.

I am now attacked on both sides as allowing 'baby killing' and as handing over the party to the 'religious zealots'. I cant win for trying ... I'm trying to get the advocates out of circular-firing-squad mode and find myself in the middle!

The Republican Party no more desires conservatives in political office than the Democratic Party does, and people who think otherwise are only deceiving themselves. My county chair is conservative, as were our past two chairs. The county exec committee is conservative. Our state party chair is conservative. Conservatives are THERE.

Yes we are there, for sure. And in office - we have a solid conservative House Majority leader - Tom DeLay. Texas has a conservative Governor and Lt Governor. The list is endless. I would add, the Republican Party activist base as a whole is far more conservative than it was in say the 1970s.

No matter how you try to frighten and confuse people, America isn't going to come to an end if homosexuals get married or if women have the right to choose abortion. Freedom means people being able to live their own lives without having to get the approval of a Theocrat.

All that would be left of the GOP would be some country club Rockefeller/Gerald Ford clones and a handful of virolent anti-Christian hate-mongering bigots. Together they might win a local school board election or state senate seat. In a nation-wide election they would be toast, as they always are.

Every national GOP win since 1988 has been due to the Evangelical vote. Deal with it.

You make no political sense, nor logical sense.

America has survived for 200 years without a constitutional
'right to abortion' and 230 years maintaining marraige as an institution between one man and one woman only, and if both policies were maintained is it was in America in 1964, America would survive just fine for 250 more years.

You need to lighten up and enjoy the 'big tent' party we are having. Dont be so intolerant and divisive!
