And the WAR ON DRUGS claims another victim.

You all must be so proud of yourselves.

Drug addiction ruins lives, and more people don't seek treatment because they fear the consequences of admitting to illegal acts.

Oh, please. Can we keep this from becoming yet another dreary WOD thread?

Alcohol is legal but most alcoholics don't seek treatment either. Poor argument.

Actually, this sounds like drugs claim another victim. He didn't avoid treatment out of fear of consequences. He sought treatment out twice before.

I am not saying that he should be treated as a criminal though, nor that he should get off scott free. What I am saying is that its a bloody tough issue, and the radicals on both sides of the WOD issue are out to lunch.

Until they hit bottom, they prefer to live with the addiction, providing they don't croak first. The legal niceties don't really enter into it unless they're arrested.

Do you really want it to be legal to sell the drugs Rush was taking without controls?

Keep telling yourself that, but it still won't make it true.

Yep. I don't know how so many people can defend Rush and dump on anti-WoD people at the same time. Does Rush going to jail for this make sense to anybody? He won't. But that's only because users rarely face vigorous prosecution, especially when they're rich and influential. Somebody with less money faceing a feistier DA could end up behind bars for the exact same thing.

This has nothing to do with the WOD. How absurd to try and bring that into this discussion.

There is a huge difference between the recreational use of drugs and being addicted to painkillers after a serious back injury. There is no justification for allowing recreational drugs.

Nor is Rush the victim of the WOD. He isn't going to be charged with a crime in all likelihood.

You are 100% right. Joe Sixpack is screwed if he has an addiction. He risks losing his job and his freedom.

Rush has done nothing to disappoint me. His truth is just as relevant with a drug addiction as without.

This cloud does have a silver lining. Rush can now speak openly about addiction and bring some sanity into this debate.
