From today's show, I can't help but feel that Rush reached down deep inside himself and mustered every ounce of strength to outlast recall-week just to avoid detracting CA voters from their problems (the real issue) and helping Davis.

Of this, I am convinced.

Rush is aware that he isn't just helping himself; he has plenty of money. If he wanted to, he could have retired today.

He didn't.

Instead, he promised to take a hard path, i.e. the hard path to recovery. He promised to come back to the EIB mike in a month -- something that he doesn't have to do.

If he keeps his promise to return, we, his loyal audience, must return as well.

He choses to do this "not because [it] is easy, but because [it] is hard!"

Bravo, Rush! We're with you!

I never thought of that. Wow, it's probably true. I assumed that he must have been or might still be addicted after reading the Enquirer story, and I listened hard every day to see if I could spot anything. It's been going on for 6 years, and I could spot no trace of anything. It's unbelievable how this man has managed to function. And I know he put a lot of effort into all his recent post-Enquirer shows to make sure they were absolutely tops. He puts excellence and his service above himself, that is for sure.

If he wanted to, he could have retired today.

Frankly, I do not think he could get through rehab if he did not have the show he loves to look forward to. This is going to be h#ll for him, and he needs that goal.

However, when he unties the other half of his brain, he is going to blast to the top of all ratings again. Whatever company sponsors his shows when he comes back, I am buying from them in triplicate. I hope it's not Hooters or I will have to be eating lunch with boobs in my face and as a breast-feeding Mommy I see enough of them all day long. LOL.

Good post. It must have been extremely hard for him to admit this, but also to say he's coming back on the other side of this. You're right, he could easily leave the airwaves, but he's not.

I've known some junkies and alcoholics. Some have been able to stay off, for some it's a battle which they lose from time to time, some are dead. I can't imagine what it would be like to be in constant pain and then have to avoid painkillers - that will be the real test for Rush. This will not be easy, whether he's clean in 30 days or not.

I wish him luck.

HEAR, HEAR...I'll be there when he comes back. He needs his listeners' support. When I read the legal...well, it was a legal statement on his site last week about the investigation, I knew at least part of the story was true and have been praying for him ever since.
